As some of you may be aware; for the last few months I have been conspicuous by my absence. I have been away reading webcomics and only interacting with Uber via gabbly.

Now, finally, I have returned. Bear in mind that all links are safe for work unless indicated but I do not have any speakers in my work computer, I'm not so far gone as too look at these at home, so I don't know if they have any sound. So without further ado:

http://www.smbc-comics.com/
Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal. A series of one to three panel funnies depicting the absurd, the ridiculous and the quasi-taboo. One of the first comics I read everyday because it happens to be at the top of my favourites.

http://www.licd.com/
Least I Could Do. A comic about a sexually promiscuous young man called Rayne Summers who has wacky adventures with his long suffering friends. A good, consistent, comic that delivers laughs about pop culture. American style absurdity and good drawing. Generally very popular.

http://www.questionablecontent.net/
Questionable Content. This one is written by 'Indie' people about 'indie' people. The characters are, as a consequence, really rather loathsome but in spite of this the comic delivers some reasonable humor.

http://www.thenoobcomic.com/
The Noob. Ahh, The Noob. Possibly one of my favourite strips, this irreverent look at the MMORPG (massively multi-player online role playing game, such as World of Warcraft) phenomenon is packed full of homage's. The story arc paying respect to The Warriors may be one of the greatest story arcs of all time.

http://www.somethingpositive.net/
Something Positive. A semi-autobiographical comic about a cynical and depressed man living in Boston. This is actually the first webcomic I ever read from beginning to end and got me hooked into the whole ghastly business. The characters and situations are somewhat larger than life, it is a comic after all, but the jokes are funny and even insightful.

http://www.sluggy.com/
Sluggy Freelance. One of the longest running webcomics I have found. An absolutely massive archive and the story regularly references previous story arcs so it's all relevant stuff. Like most webcomics it's primary focus is on humor, but I must confess I really got immersed in the plot. I loved it, you will almost certainly despise it with every fiber of your being.

http://www.joeandmonkey.com/
Joe and Monkey. A simple strip dealing with pop culture, with absurdist humor. Better than it sounds.

http://catandgirl.com/index.php
Cat and Girl. A very pretentious webcomic about a girl and the anthromorphic cat she lives with. Jokes range from indie 'culture' to intellectual and cult icons. Makes use of pathos a lot, as well as satire and irony. I love it dearly, but then I am very pretentious.

http://www.scarygoround.com/index.php
Scary go Round. This webcomic is English and as such incredibly funny. Every single strip, from first to last, is charmingly mirthful. Managing to be both classy and original with updates as regular as clockwork. Magnificent.

http://overcompensating.com/ - This link is for both Overcompensating and WIGU.
WIGU (When I Grow Up). A zany story about a young boy and his wack adventures. As usual, the plot and characters is merely a vehicle for the author's considerable wit. I regard this comic as the American Scary Go Round as the quality of humor is on a par with it. Indeed, both Jeffrey Rowland and John Allison are good friends and freely admit to influencing one another's work.

Overcompensating. Jeffrey Rowlands diary comic. Good jokes, well worth a look.

http://www.qwantz.com/
Dinosaur Comics. The same panel every week, with different words. A unique webcomic that is both extremely funny and informative without being pretentious or repetitive. Truly, truly splendid.

http://www.pbfcomics.com/
Perry Bible Fellowship. Hilarious comic that makes use of 'old timey' drawing styles to juxtapose it's frequently gruesome and shocking subject matter. Very original and very funny. Sometimes a little tragic.

http://www.drmcninja.com/
Dr McNinja. Dude, seriously. How can you NOT want to read it? It's called Dr Mcninja for heavens sake. Seriously though, the artwork is top notch, the characters infinitely lovable and the humor of consistently high grade. It even updates regularly.

http://www.shortpacked.com/index.html
Shortpacked. A comic about toys. It's funny. No, really, it is. A tongue in cheek look at the obsessive hobby of toy collecting and the people who do it.

http://www.whiteninjacomics.com/
White Ninja Comics. A strip of absurdist humor. I sometimes worry it tries too hard, but it's generally very good.

http://www.alessonislearned.com/
A Lesson is Learned but the Damage is Irreversible. Without any shadow of a doubt one of my favorite webcomics of all time. Rarely comic, I love this one for the beautiful art and thought provoking subject matter. Tragically it has been 'on hiatus' for some time and I rather suspect it's gone the way of all flesh. Still, the forty or so comics in the archive are very much worth a look.

http://www.robandelliot.cycomics.com/
Rob and Elliot. A light hearted comic about two friends. There is a plot but the author seems bored with it lately, preferring to put his characters in stand-alone situations. Good stuff.

http://www.digitalpimponline.com/strips.php?title=movie
Joe Loves Crappy Movies. Strip about a larger than life caricature of the author that passes commentary on movies, actors and other elements of movies. Very, very funny indeed. Also there are links to Joseph Dunn's other comics, the best of which is Matriculated Wednesdays.

http://www.boltcity.com/copper/
Copper. This is another comic that's more about aesthetic beauty than comedy. Each comic is wonderfully drawn and often rather moving. Unfortunately this comic is no longer updated, but each installment is a labour of love. Top drawer stuff.

http://www.partiallyclips.com/
Partially Clips. Clip art strip with commentary over the top. Simple, but effective humor is a plus for this strip. Terribly designed website, and irregular updates let it down though.

http://www.butternutsquash.net/
Butternutsquash. I rarely level this sort of accusation at people providing free stuff, but the artists behind this comic are lazy. They should either do the damned comic or stop pretending to be back from hiatus and fuck off. My inarticulate rage from their inability to update stems from the fact that these Canadians are quite funny, in spite of their racial handicap, and have created some appealing characters.

http://recklessyouth.comicgen.com/
Reckless Youth. Essentially a story about a young loser who is, apparently, the son of God and the second coming. He battles demons, abuses his position and is a lovable idiot. Generally quite good (note the omission of the word 'very'), but irregular updates let it down. Incidentally, the other characters in the story steal the show, in spite of being poorly introduced so you don't really know who anyone ever really is. I dunno, there's a lot wrong with this comic but there's a lot right with it as well.

http://www.faubcomic.com/
Fallen Angels Used Books. A fantastic story of normal people coming into contact with nether creatures living amongst 1980's America. This comic is a story, unlike most of the former comics which are, as mentioned, nothing more than a vehicle for various jokes. I do like this one, but it may not be to everyone's tastes. Indeed, I have omitted many story based webcomics from this list as they come across as rather immature, but this is a real story written by someone is old enough to have to shave their genitals. I'll leave it up to you to decide.

http://edgeknight.comicgen.com/
Edge the Devilhunter. A Manga with very good artwork that deals with issues of race and socialism. There are jokes but generally the pitch is quite dark. This is one of the few comics that includes any reference to rape and some panels are rather NSFW. Whilst this comic can be rather trite, George W Bush depicted as a giant cock-shaped demon, it's defiantly well worth a look. I must caution, however, that the recent story arc seems to be heading in the direction of teenage sex and pedophilia and could get a little edgy (ha ha).

http://www.elsiehooper.com/todaysserial.htm
Elsie Hooper. An unusal web comic, this is done in black and white. No jokes in this one but rather a sort of bizarre, zombie holocaust, spiritualistic romp. Surprisingly it doesn't update very regularly (the guy have a hard time getting black pencils) but there is an extensive archive. I would recommend this one if only as an artistic curiosity.

http://www.go-girly.com/
Girly. Seen Cartoon Network recently? Well this is similar in many ways to the fare they put out today, only with Lesbians and stuff. I'm not really selling this one, am I? It's good, trust. HOWEVER, I must warn you that several times the site has come under virus attack and teh evil haxxors embedded viruses in the main page, so whilst it's content is safe for work it may be wise to give it a miss whilst at work. It was okay when I last looked at it.

http://www.darkencomic.com/
Darken. Fantasy webcomic. Pretty average. Swords and sorcery and so on. Regular updates.

http://www.marilith.com/index.php
Marilith. A stylish webcomic about a curvaceous lady assassin. Very rare updates as the artist is probably spanking off to his own material in his mum's basement. He does draw a good shootout though.

http://www.pholph.com/
Jack. Now this is an unusual webcomic for many reasons. Firstly I must warn you that it is a furry webcomic and its explicit content is NSFW. It is about the afterlife; heaven, hell and purgatory. Jack, whom the comic is titled on, is the grim reaper and the embodiment of the sin of wrath. Many story arcs are his morose dealings with the recently deceased, many more are with the not so recently deceased in hell and some do not feature him at all. I must stress that in spite of the authors... funny habits, that this comic is extremely good. It is thought provoking and the jokes, when the comic is being comic, are funny. The updates are as regular as clockwork and there is a very, very large archive of existing material that is of high quality.

http://www.pandaxpress.com/
Panda Express. A cute webcomic about a robotic panda, an OTT British secret agent and a disco ninja. Original stories and very professional artwork. A small archive and a infrequent updates make this a snack sized experience, but it's worth it.

http://www.multiplexcomic.com/
Mutliplex. Yet another webcomic dealing with movies. Honestly it's rather tragic that these funny people can find no better inspiration for their art than the blasé pop culture institutions of cinema. That aside, this is a pleasant comic about staff at a movie theater. Paradoxically the content suggests the author is highly anally retentative regarding 'great cinema' (don't worry, he's funny and not a cock. It's just reminiscent of Shortpacked in its obsessive attention to trivia), and yet at the same time the updates are sporadic. One can only wonder at the poor, monstrously pathetic creature that is both shackled by such high strung obsession and yet consumed with apathy. His psyche must be a cathedral of self loathing. Anyway, it's a good comic with nice characters and fun jokes. The website design is shit.

http://www.hellboundcomic.com/
Hellbound. An off the wall comic about a demon, a straight man, a simpleton and an anthromorphic dog. Absurd comedy, hilariously clownish characters and it's all very tongue in cheek. Classic stuff.

http://www.frontbeat.com/
Front Beat. Cops and robbers and robots. Very nice artwork and good action scenes. In spite of this it's a bit... I dunno... flaccid. Definatly worth a look though. This is a story focused webcomic so don't expect too many laughs.

http://www.wanderingones.com/
Wandering Ones. If you like Scouts, Ray Mears and those old comics with heroic allied forces fighting the hated, "Achtung!" shouting, Nazis then this is for you. It's set in the future with Native American/special forces tribes fighting neo-Nazi imperialists. Need I say more?

http://www.sorethumbsonline.com/
Sore Thumbs. Absurd webcomic about games and politics. Differs from the vast horde of Penny Arcade clones by being well drawn, original and having variety. Just as well, because Penny Arcade was shite enough to begin with. This is a genuinely funny, unpretentious and charming comic with regular updates and an extensive archive.

http://goblinscomic.com/
Goblins. A D&D webcomic that looks at life through the eyes of the often put upon goblin. Good artwork, involving storyline and regular updates are distinctive positives, however there is constant reference made to Dungeons and Dragons rules which will provide an obstacle to those who know nothing about the hobby. The characters literally talk about difficulty scores and damage rolls so if you have issues with suspending your disbelief I recommend you avoid this comic. If you are comfortable with these concepts you will find here a very rewarding and appealing story.

http://www.realmofatland.com/
Realm of Atland (not Realm o' Fatland, sadly). A fantasy webcomic, revolving around epic adventurers it is nevertheless told with its tongue firmly in cheek. Much like the next comic:

http://www.lfgcomic.com/
Looking for Group. This webcomic is identical to Atland in almost every way. The only notable difference is that LFG is very much inspired by World of Warcraft. The jokes are the important thing though and both Atland and LFG deliver moderate to chortle-worthy humor.

http://www.megatokyo.com/
Mega Tokyo. An American Manga, set in a ficticious, OTT Tokyo. The comic revolves around Piro, an emotionally crippled otaku nerd who is based on the author, and Largo, another emotional cripple who is obsessed with "l33t" culture and who is based on the author's best mate. The comic is very well drawn and the story is a heartwarming tale of love and romance in a city symbolic of each characters obsessive hobbies, tendencies and views of the world. Great stuff.

http://www.afterstrife.com/
Afterstrife. The work of Ali Graham and the sequal to:

http://www.housd.net/
Housed. An English webcomic about a group of housemates. It's mostly awful but there are a few gems, particularly in the later episodes. Afterstrife is about one of the characters from Housed who dies at the end who Ali wanted to focus on. Truthfully it has yet to truly distinguish itself either via its characters or its content but I keep reading it in the hope that Ali has matured into a good webcomic writer, he was quite young when he penned Housed you see. Consider this an honorable mention.

http://www.drunkduck.com/No_Need_for_Bushido/
No Need for Bushido. I love this comic. I think it is ace. A samurai cartoon with some truly splendid characters and some wonderful jokes. You may hate it, to be honest, but there are some truly great moments here. Also see:

http://www.drunkduck.com/No_Need_for_Bushido_Remix/index.php
No Need for Bushido Remix. Panels from the original comic with different content 'dubbed' over it. Marvelous.

http://outtherecomic.com/
Out There. A webcomic about a woman and the hitch-hiker she picks up. It's all quite innocent and is a lighthearted look at men, women and the relationships they have.

http://www.hyperdeathbabies.com/
Hyper Death Babies. A rather vulgar strip that appeals to my own vulgar tastes and will, no doubt, appeal to the vulgar of Ubersite as well.

http://www.drunkduck.com/watchdogs/
Watchdogs. A webcomic a pair of vigilantes. In many ways this is kind of like Fight Club, with regards to the relationship between the two main characters. Anyway, it's a story driven comic centered around themes of race and crime.

http://www.drunkduck.com/Crimson_Dark/
Crimson Dark. A sci-fi webcomic with 3D modeled artwork. It's a good story, with the old "two great empires fighting one another" setting. As you can guess from the unoriginal setting this is a character driven story, like Firefly, Farscape or similar. If you liked them then you'll probably like this.

http://www.wheelchairromeo.com/
Wheel Chair Romeo. Comic strip that deals in taboo humor. It's alright, nothing special. Website is a little clunky. Really rather meh, but the quality of the humor is above average I suppose.

http://www.itswalky.com/index.html
Joyce and Walky. A very long running webcomic, originally called Roomies. This comic was initially about students living in a dormitory (which was told with a bizarrely pious pitch) and later went on to be about a group of alien abductee, superhumans who fought aliens whilst struggling with their respective pasts and present. It's surprisingly morish, I couldn't stop turning to the next page and lost a lot of hours to this one, so defiantly deserves a mention in my definitive list of webcomics I recommend. The archive is enormous, stretching back to '97, so it's of Sluggy Freelance proportions. The archive is so big that if it was a cock it would kill you and your entire family. Frankly I think it deserves to be listed for that alone. Also on the website you can find a link to Rip and Terry, a spy story that's actually got a beginning, middle and end.

http://simulatedcomicproduct.com/
Simulated Comic Product. Strip based webcomic. The jokes here are somewhat philosophical.

http://www.blastwavecomic.com/
Gone with the Blastwave. Now this is a fairly recent addition to my regular reads. It's a post apocalyptic setting about two soldiers wandering through the wasteland, killing other soldiers and generally getting up to hi-jinks. There's this marvelous melancholy overtone to the whole thing; the soldiers don't know who they're fighting, or why, only that there's nothing else left. They pass the time killing one another in ridiculous 'spy vs spy' ways and engaging in general japery. It doesn't update regularly at all but the humor and originality is top notch.

http://www.thinkin-lincoln.com/
Thinkin' Lincoln. Similar in many ways to Dinosaur Comics, this strip does feature differing stuff in the panels. The jokes are top drawer stuff including great moments like a fight between Edison and Tesla, Darwin's beard with a beard with a beard entry in a beard contest and the ever mirthful banter between Abraham Lincoln and George Washington. Many references to American History, so you get to learn whilst you laugh.

http://www.drunkduck.com/Elijah_and_Azuu/
Elijah and Azuu. A webcomic about a Demon and an Angel who compete for souls that are neither evil nor good to decide their ultimate fate. Basically a look at Religious ideals, musings on what divine entities would be like and general dramatics. The jokes are fairly average but the story is compelling stuff. The comic sports daily updates so it's one of my more regular reads.

Well that more or less concludes my definitive list of comics Berty recommends, but there were a great many comics I do read but didn't mention because I don't feel they quite had the 'right stuff' (whatever that may be). I recommend http://www.drunkduck.com/ for finding new comics quickly, but most of the sites I have linked have links of their own which is how I came into contact with all of these.

If you know of any webcomics that are not listed here, please share them with me. I have an awful lot of free time at work to kill and am always interested in new stories.

Good research? Clearly I have some sort of problem. I mean look at this list! I read all of these webomics EVERY SINGLE DAY! Every few words I actually have to stop typing so I can open another window and read another update. Complimenting me on this is like complimenting a man who washes his hands for 3 hours a day on his hygiene.

Still, I'm glad you like it and I guess it's always nice to hear nice things about oneself.

Perhaps then we should compliment OCD riddled cripples on their hygiene and attention to detail? I'd better get in touch with Method so I can get Electro's number and compliment him on his simple, childlike, view of the world.

no... but i can't poo properly. It's weird, I can shit but I pass out, I wake up on the toilet thinking wha' ungh huh but I'm always late for work. If we had a cyclone and it devastated our toilet paper plantations, I'd be in some serious trouble. I can't tell anyone either, I just rock up to work and say erm, I had a sleep in, I wake and then pass out, but it's cool, because I get to skip breakfast and you know when you poo and go all red in the face and think you're finished but are determined to push out 'breakfast'?, one last try and all? well that's me, except I get giddy, and wake at a quarter to nine. weird.

webcomics are gay, if you're gay, or berty, or a dreadfully hungry 'artist' called gay berty.

I much preferred ttoms' commando post, which I didn't rate, because I have been too busy rushing around second-hand bookstores trying to find the one about how the paki didn't slit the afika korps' guys throat, on account of him not wanting to be in the commonwealth, like Ireland, who spanked pakistan at cricket.

You should play them in hurling and get your own back.

Questionable Content. This one is written by 'Indie' people about 'indie' people. The characters are, as a consequence, really rather loathsome but in spite of this the comic delivers some reasonable humor.

Also, I can't remember the name of one comic-type site that always has just one large colourful panel that's usually pretty trippy to look at and is based on some caption that gets twisted around in the drawing. If anyone knows this one pipe up, si vous plait.

Anyways, here are some of my favourites that weren't on the list:

http://www.beaverandsteve.com/

Beaver (a beaver) and Steve (A dragony/lizardy thing) have unfeasible adventures. Pure madness.

http://www.gunnerkrigg.com/index2.php

Gubberkrigg Court. Not consistently good and it sometimes feels like the writer skips bits to get to the end but still engaging and pretty enough to keep me interested.

I like these small time comics better than 98% of these published newspaper ones. They all do the same thing over and over again. It sucks. These ones at least do quasi-edgy things.

The amount of repetition in these comics is remarkable. You'll see a million and one 'housemate' comics for instance, but God alone knows how many times I used the word 'absurdist' in this post. That repetition isn't a bad thing though, after all we've all had fun telling big dick jokes or 'your mum is so fat' jokes. It's all about the gags.

I reccomend for you Simulated Comic Product.
