Alphonse Mucha (1860-1939) worked for a theatre design company until it caught fire and blew up leaving him jobless and the young young age of 18.
He eventually went to art school at Munich Academy of Fine Arts. He worked in illustration, design, advertisements and commercial art aswell as numerous commissions. He started painting in the art nouveau style though his women are dressed in more classical robes and shit, lush surroundings and halos at times though he fuckin hated this style and wanted nothing to do with it. Why the hell he painted like this then I don't have a damned clue. Anyway, he kept painting and when the czechs won their independence after the Great War he designed shit like postage stamps and bank notes and other government stuff.
When the second War of the Worlds broke out, he was one of the first dudes attacked by the Gestapo. There was probably some asshole who should have stayed home from work that day but killing jews is what he loved and so nazi guy went to work and passed his sickness to Mucha, giving him the pneumonia which ended up killing him.
By the time he died his style was out dated and over rated and pretty much only his author-son liked him enough to keep talking to him. I mean, he was a pretty cool guy and all but he was sometimes shady and a bit of a bastard to guests in his home, doing things like taking the last roll and not sharing the butter at dinner or smoking in the non-smoking section of restaurants.
Also, he liked to knock the walking canes out from under the elderly and point and laugh as well as kicking small children just to watch them cry.
