It's because humanity, overall--or you can limit it just to America, but really, humanity overall—has decided to trade value from Big-Fuck-Off-Spaces-of-Land to placing value on High-rises and Cosco and Artificial-Lagoons-Filled-With-Pig-Shit. Check out the pig industry. It's what they do. Anyway, this value judgment can be inferred by looking at land prices.

So, you like Uber and thus, as is predicted by Cartesian Logic, you like Pornography, and therefore ergo cum cuntimus coxy: you like technology. You know the price of technology? Or rather, you know where the increased investment into technology comes from? It comes from the Earth.
I mean, it comes from the brains of smart people, but those people need to eat! And everytime Paris Hilton opens her mouth, the world gets dumber, and it takes that many more dumb people to produce someone smart enough to give us faster Porno.
Is it inevitable? No. But until someone shuts Paris Hilton up, I mean until one of her boy toys decides to experiment with Mescalin and slices Paris Hilton's throat thinking she's the Toad Princess, then by golly, land is going to keep being swallowed up.
