The N Word.
I think that black spokespersons and advocates should get off their high horses and stop protesting only when white people use the word "nigger". Richard Prior (or however you spell his name) may have been a pioneer in many ways, but his use of the word "nigger" was one aspect of his delivery which I think the world could have done without. I don't think white people shoudl say nigger either but:
How can the word mean "slave/underling/inferior being" when anyone but a black person uses it, when it suddenly becomes a word that means "brother/partner in suffering/comrade"? And where do you draw the line? Black people call each other niggers in a derogatory way, too. Should we fine them half a million dollars each, each time they say that word?
You know the reason white people don't complain when we get called "crackers" or "white devils" or whatever the flavour of the week is? We don;t get upset for the following reasons:
1) We know that we're bastards. White people have done everything to ruin the world and we have come to terms with that. Although none of us is personally responsible for the inquisition, global warming, all-bran, or the social inequities seen every day, we know that people tend to generalise, and that to criticise them for this would be hypocritical.
2) We're taught in school that name-calling is a pointless and childish way of striking back at your enemy.
3) We realise that words are only words, and that in this context they have absolutely no bearing on our lives, because they're just a bunch of hateful sounds coming from the mouth of a person to whom we have done no wrong, and therefore they have no justification, tack, or basis in reality.
That's why, among many other reasons. So, permit me to say something that any appropriately indignanty African American revolutionary would find racist: take a leaf out f our book and stop attributing so much gravity to words. Yes, when used at the right time in the right way with the right people, words have enough power to influence history. Calling each other names never has a right time, right place, or right audience. So don't do it. And stop generalising. If the fact that some uptight white people instinctively grasp their keys more tightly when they walk past an African American is racist, then so is an African American saying that I'm at fault for the rezongin of his particular residential district, and his having to move/find a new place to live.
Warm Decembers
I mean, what the hell. December is usually the nicest moneth because it's cold, but not TOO cold, and snow starts to stay on the ground. A few days ago it was 13 FUCKING DEGREES HERE (celsius). This is bad! I want snow! I want hail storms, ice forming on stairs, visible breath, that chunky snow when there's no wind and you can hear it fall! I DON'T WANT TO SEE MY CAR WHEN I WAKE UP IN THE MORNING!

If you check any linguistical background the word nigger has, it has never meant slave/underling or inferior being. It all points back to black. It was never used to describe anything as a slave apart from when black people were being held slaves. The word didn't even have any negative vibe.
The way I reason it is this: if you've ever been subjected to horrible humiliation by some rapist or whatever, and he keeps calling you honey while inserting things up your backside, You'd never appreciate anyone calling you honey afterwards. This is roughly the same thing, but on a larger, more collectively unconscious scale.
If, say, two or three generations of black people would never be called nigger, it'd probably be Okay after that again.

We crackers will never fully understand what it's like for a black person to hear a white person say the n-word. The bottom line is that it's not fucking cool for us to say it, period. It's their word. That's never going to change... ever. Please get the hell over it already.
