The far east called to the russians just as the far gone calls to me, yet as Korsakov painted and spirited his works out of his head, I paint and work spirits into my head and gut. The only sound that soothes me is the cry of sirens at night and the distant hum of my second self playing an electric organ in the grand canyon or the comforting coolness of oxygen in my nostrils, of water slithering down my pipes, of blood pumping in my ears.

I'm alive, for better or worse, but probably for both. I'm better off alive than dead but the world truly is, and i say this without a sense of irony or idiocy, better off without me. Thankfully for myself, I'm selfish enough to stay alive, as my father wasn't.

I've dreamed and those dreams have died but at least I once had the capacity of thought to fathom an escape from the prison of a life not lived but timed, stamped, checked, and accounted for. At least I, unlike the stale faces everywhere of tiredness, so sour and dour, have attempted a life well lived and poorly planned.

I'm going out to the carnival tonight to slip in and out of orange and black, flame and lantern, to gaze on beautiful wares and wary beauties, as the great romantics and drunks of parisian high art before me so reveled in.

My Hubris is breaking me and my Composure sustains me.

Marge: Homer, is this the way you pictured married life?

Homer: Yup, pretty much. Except we drove around in a van solving
mysteries.
