It ceases to amaze the mind
How arrogant we moderns are
Dismissing thought from ancient time
Because we've better seen the stars
And since we've better understood
The workings of the Universe
We'd scorn them to their face, but should
Be grateful that they came but first
We have the nerve to speculate
With every new discovered light
That we, compared to them, are great
That they, compared to us, are slight
We represent ourselves as smart
And take the credit fast as fools
But we contribute for our part
By using what they gave as tools:
Technique
Mathematics
Rationalism
We may live longer,
but we don't live better
We may know more,
but we are not smarter
