Animals pee in that water. It's full of micro organisms and parasites. The photographs fail to do the area justice and make it look like some average scrubland.

hahahahahaha.....oh just beautiful. Being a now-former Ohioan, I can say that yeah, if I forced myself to, I could see the beauty around me in the crack houses and abandoned shoe factories, the flat forests filled with enough pollen to kill a man, the shitty brown rivers literally filled with excrement. Then again, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and circumstances are a cement that most can't escape. Yellow Springs is nice.
