Sorry for this but since 90% of Americans seem to have the idea that anyone labelled as "terrorist" should be blown to kingdom come I felt rather pissed off when I heard that Hamas was still being labelled a terrorist organisation by Bush and his mob as of this morning.
Now, I know that a lot of people here will support Israel and I know that Hamas has done some shitty things in it's day but now that they have been democratically elected (women excluded) I personally think it's rather bullshit to keep calling them terrorists.
At this point I'm gonna hear the ol' "But Hamas has been supporting terrorism and suicide-bombing for years" and I respect that arguement. At this point I'd also like to add that Israel chopper attacks have blown up nearly twice as many Arab kiddies as suicide bombers have blown up kinder juden, but I digress. The point is that terrorists are rogue organisations that work outside of government and democracy to achieve their goals. However Hamas has now been democratically elected, they are representative of the people of palestine and as such can no longer be considered terrorists.
From now on, when a Hamas bomber goes into Zion and blows himself up it's a state-sponsored action. State-sponsored agressive actions are not classified as terrorism; they are classified as acts of war.
Once again I apologise for a shitty post and I'm not trying to defend Hamas in any way, but when you have people in America/Canada/Australia who believe that "all terrorists should be killed" than I for one think it's important that we come up with a fucking definition for terrorists. Hamas are war-mongerers, Hamas are jew-killers, Hamas are enemies. All true, but they can no longer, as an elected front of a semi-democratic nation be considered terrorists. At least from this point on, anyway.
I'm sorry, but I'm getting rather sick of anyone who's an enemy being labelled a terrorist.
Israeli government sponsoring attacks: National defence.
Pally government sponsoring attacks: Terrorism.

When jews first landed in Palestine the Arabs (and this is a surprising fact) made a compromise asking that the nations combine and that the schools teach both Arabic and Hebrew. The jews denied.
If some foreign group went into your nation, refused bluntly to come together as friends after you (the hosts) compromise for them, then have an international body give these unassymilating people over half of your land, then brand you as a "terrorist" when you fight back against a mechanised army that gets it's funds from zionists in a nation that is invading your neighbours and friends, I'd be fucking pissed off too.
Religion isn't the biggest thing here. It's the culture. Besides, Americans were technically fighting on "British soil" so they were fighting on foreign lands too.

3) No Jew took land from an arab, attacked an arab, or stole from an arab. They paid for land. the Israeli's treated the Palestinians better then the surrounding arab countries. Before Jews from europe came they were living in almost stone age conditions, they taught the people there everything they know about modern farming.
4) If it is only about culture why is there no strong hatred for christians in the middle east? Muslims and Jews ahve a lot more in common in their culture then christians. From foods thay are allowed to eat, to the way they fast on holidays, to their study of religious texts. It isn't the culture it is that infidels made a country a good place to live where they were living like fucking animals.

I agree completely, but it's a bit of a substandard post isn't it?
The White House is going to have to deal with Hamas now. There is no way around it. You certainly can't just charge in and start blowing the shit out of them. That would be a bad idea, unless you're ready to kill them all and get it over with. To think this problem can be fixed with bombs without killing every last one of them - women and children included - is absurd.
The argument that the US government 'doesn't deal with terrorists' cannot hold water in this case.
I actually laughed when I heard the news that hamas had taken over the governance. I laughed because it illustrates perfectly what I've been saying all along...that the line between 'terrorist' and 'soldier' is one of mere popularity.

this begs an interesting question. Since Hammas was elected by the people, if they continue in suicide bombings, then it is no longer terrorism but war where civilian population is being targeted. If this happens Israel should be fully within their rights to bomb Palestine back into the stone ages, men women and children would all be legitimate targets.
They won't do it of course, maybe bacause they don't want to, but most likely because of international pressure. Israel is the only country in the world under this much pressusre to not protect itself from enemies who have repeatedly stated and acted like they want them all exterminated.

The difference between Hamas and Sinn Fein is that Hamas was originally a humanitarian organisation that turned to militancy in 1987. The IRA was always a paramilitary organisation. Now curiously enough, Hamas have maintained their humanitarian efforts in Palestine and also, so I've heard, includes many different members and factions that don't just deal with militancy.
So basically there is a chance that things might be ok, although given the combination of local political feeling and then primary outcry against Israel, the situation looks particularly bleak.
A pity really. The Israel-Palestine war is coming. I can only hope that somepoint between now and the end of it all we'll get the international court and the UN in to sort the fucking mess out rather than leaving it up to British legislators like last time.
It's all Englands fault, this whole fucking mess. That's the real tradgedy of 9/11 you see, it was never the Americans fault. They inherited the mess from us, the mistakes made in the dying days of the British Empire.
Still. Serves the buggers right for not supporting us during the Suez canal crisis.

You're all actually missing the point that Hamas is now in control of a semi-autonomous region, not a state at all. "The Palestinian State" is a lazy term. They don't have supreme sovereignty, they only have limited military control over their own area, they are not recognized internationally. This has quite a lot of implications for what actions are legitimate on their part.

Gold Coast is very close to Brisbane. In fact both cities are starting to fuse together as they expand into eachothers borders. I'm 5th Generation Gold Coaster (though I'm now in Brisbane); in fact my family used to own the Bulletin (the biggest GC newspaper) until jews bought us out. Figures. And no, I don't know anyone called "Jesse" from there (or here for that matter).
I think if I ever got the title of Fuhrer I'd change my name to something more German and cool sounding. Wilhelmsohn? Von Wilhelm? I could go back to my old German family roots and be Fuhrer Von Larther. Williamson just doesn't sound cool enough to be a fuhrer.

Jacobt26, actually I'd agree to nuclear destruction all over the middle east. That takes care of both of them.
I'm not too worried about Iran having nukes, because I really believe they'll use them against Israel and the response is going to be kick ass. Like sit on the couch with several 2 liters cooling in the fridge and a Costco purchased bulk-size box of microwave popcorn kind of kick ass.
But I don't think it will ever get to that because Israel is not going to let it.

Whatever the arguement, Hamas should recognize Israel and move the fuck on. All the jews fled Iraq, Iran, Libya, etc...ALL Arab countries and more... after 1948 (the creation of Israel) and even more after other events (fall of the shah)... So displacing X number of palestinians is comparable to the number of Jews that had to flee under less than wonderful circumstances. The 'rabs should be happy they are all in their little country rather than still spread out throught the whole middle east like they were.
Here is my idea of a peace process: Ok, shit was messed up when we created Israel but... there ain't no going back now, they are there to STAY. Don't like it? BOMB THE HELL OUT OF ALL THE COUNTRIES THAT REFUSE TO FACE THIS REALITY.
Next: The "occupied lands". Israel should return ownership of the land back to the Palestinians to create their homeland. If not, end all aid/military support going to them and let them ride out the future 100% on their own with an economic boycott on top of it.
Last: Palestianians create their new country and the second they want the rest of Israel, bomb them to hell.

Call it what you want. The fact that they are now an elected political party makes them part of the Gov't over there, and not terrorists, you're correct on that. There were a group of rebels a while ago who disagreed with the government that ruled their lands. As a result they rebelled and killed soldiers and civilians who believed in the mother nation and not their rebellious cause. The rebels were branded as traitors and terrorists. These "terrorists" used surprise attacks, guerilla warfare and anything they could to win the war. In the process thousands on the "motherland's" side died but the rebels eventually took hold of the land (with the help of another nation who disliked the rebels' motherland).
Are these rebels truly terrorists?

I'd like to agree...but no.
Hamas refuses to recognize Israel as a state and their platform consists of the "destruction of Israel". So, sure, maybe we can't call them TERRORISTS but they are still an enemy.
So far they have been quiet on their victory, but their refusal to change certain policies they have been committed to for years will result in disaster for the region.
For one, the money that comes in from Europe will grind to a halt. The EU has expressed concern about this election and obviously will not continue to send money to aid a regime that is hellbent on the destruction of Israel.
Next, the major problem is that hamas will have to recognize Israel and vice-versa. How can we move forward with any peace process when the two sides fail to acknowledge each other? Already hamas said it will not recognize Israel unless certain criteria is met. (I'm guessing it will be criteria Israel will not accept.)
I'd have to tell you that the burden of responsibility lies on Hamas first, then the other nations of the world to treat them as the legitimate leaders of their people.

Call it what you want. The fact that they are now an elected political party makes them part of the Gov't over there, and not terrorists, you're correct on that. But does a change of categories or names change what they believe? NO! they still will not be happy until all jews are killed, and or pushed out like they did to the Jews 1000 years ago. As for the number of people killed on each side being of any importance, it isn't. Who cares if the Israelies have killed 2, 4, 20 times as many Palestinians as vice versu. If the Palestinians would stop blowing themselves up on crowded busses and in busy shooping centers, Israel would have no reason to bomb the shit of them. Besides, Israel's strikes are most often on terrorist strongholds, not in public.

I'm sure this logic works for the half of america that voted for bush ... well a little under half, or whatever... but I'd rather hear what our real goals over there are from the president. There are plenty of countries that need a helping hand, and even more that deserve some good ass whomping, countries that really do have WMD or are trying to make them.
This is about our oil interests, and possibly Bush's religious opinions at this point.
