Sometimes, we don't realize what we have done, until we've already done it. Sometimes, it's the biggest mistake we've ever made. Sometimes, we wish we could just go back in time, and tell ourselves not to do what we're thinking about doing. Sometimes.
Where do you think you will be in ten years? Honestly now, not any hopes and dreams, but rather, what you really feel, deep down in your heart, where you will be in ten years.
You know what I think?
Probably not.
I do, and I'm going to share it with you.
I think I'll be happily married, with a child or two. My wife, I will treat her like a queen. My son a king, and my daughter a princess. I'll be in a comfortable job, with a comfortable salary. My friends will be people that I've known for a long time, and some that I haven't. I see myself still friends with Patrick, Dave, Milo, Dana, Tina, Alex, Becca. I see myself with friends that I haven't met yet. I see myself as the pride of my mother, something she's done right in her life. I see myself helping those around me who need it.
I've realized that it doesn't matter how much money you make, or how successful you are. I mean, those things are nice, but what really matters is how many people are going to be at your funeral, and truly care. It seems to have the same moral as the 1930's screenplay, called You Can't Take it With You. When St. Augustines High School performed it, I made fun of it. Mainly because of bad acting, but when I saw the actual movie, it made me cry, and start to think. I realized how right it was with its message.
Sometimes, I think about faking my death, just to see who would show up. I know, it's kind of creepy and what not, but I think it's the best guage of how much you are truly loved. I want to be one of those people, that people remember. The one that the entire town mourns for, and remembers. Not like a fake one, for dead soldiers, when cities dedicate parks to those who have died in the war, but a true hero. A true love, a true mourning, and a deep appreciation for what I've done.
I know that the chances of this actually happening the way I exactly want it to are slim, but I know I will have just as glorious a future, if not in this way, in another.
We are a product of our surroundings, you know? If you surround yourself with good people, you become a good person. If you surround yourself with people that aren't quite what most people would consider respectable, you become like them. Some people don't realize this, at least until they've already done it. They then realize that it was a huge mistake, and wish they could go back in time, to tell themselves not to do what they are about to do.

Although I disagree with a bit of the sentiment, this is my kind of writing. +2 Bravo.

You're probably right, although you will probably end up divorced, estranged from your offspring and (ultimatly) alone. Also the whole "Treat my wife as a queen, son as a king and daughter as a princess" carries dodgy connotations. I mean if you treat your wife as the queen and your son as the king then well...
I'm all for alternative lifestyles but we tried that sort of thing with our royal family and the results weren't too clever.
