It really doesn't matter. Republican or Democrat, these tools are all the same. They all represent the same people, the same ideals, and the same big corporations- they just approach it differently so that you will be forced to vote one of them into office. At the end of the day, the same big families still run and own everything that influences you, so there's no point in crying over it. Bush may be the biggest idiot to ever display his retardation to the general public, but he's considerably smarter than he lets on. His public persona is a sham, and so many people write it off. Don't be fooled, the Prescotts are powerful people...

My guess is that Bush's next pick will be a minority but a very conservative one. But that's speculation on my part.

Stevens is the oldest, and he's there are rumors flying around that he'll call it quits. Possibly because he knows there will be a fight to replace him and will get a more moderate candidate than if the republicans win the next election and has a president not as polarizing as Bush.
David Souter is 19 years or so younger than Stevens.

I always said Roberts will be the middle-ground guy to follow in Sandra Day O'Connor's shoes but the one that replaces Rehnquist will be Bush's real die hard conservative. If you replace a die-hard conservative with another one, there is no shift in the balance of power on the supreme court.
By the way, Sandra Day O'Connor and Rehnquist were two of the 4 who voted against taking away property rights by the state in the Kelo V. New London eminent domain case. The other two? Justices Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas; the other die hard conservatives on the bench.
The real fight will be when Stevens dies/retires soon.
I give major respect to Sandra Day O'Connor as she was probably my favorite supreme court justice as I agreed with nearly all of her decisions and the way she voted. And to top that, the woman is going to retire and enjoy the remainder of her life with her family, unlike Rehnquist who stayed on the bench until he was put in a coffin.

Hear hear! O'Connor rocked, Kelo v. New London SUCKED, and I got a huge laugh out of the fact that some group was turning it on Stevens (I think) to get his home demolished under the ruling...apparently it was all good until it actually affected him.

The people are supposed to make decisions based on the constitution and you have some of these assholes saying they check "international law" when this is not their god damn job. This is bullshit, period. We are a sovereign nation with our own laws and it is not the US Supreme Court's job to determine if our laws comply with "international law", as this is a matter to obviously take up with the U.N.
Roberts seems like a big constitution-supporting guy and the democrats hate him. Democrats are idiots though, because what do they think? Bush is going to toss them a bone? What the fuck for?!

For the most part I vote Democrat, but I don't think Roberts is that bad of a guy - it could have been a lot worse. The "a lot worse" is what I'm worried about right now. Like you said, it's not like he's going to throw us a bone - in his position I wouldn't either.
