I thought I'd follow suit and post my "Fresh" story. I wrote it in about an hour and a half and had no idea what it would be about until I wrote it, but it got me a spot in Ubermadness, so I'm not complaining.

It was painfully clear that he would not live through the night. As he lay there struggling to breathe, blood pouring from the wound, he stared up at her grey eyes wondering why she did it. What had he done to deserve this? He was unable to tell from her eyes if she felt any remorse, until they shifted from their cold grey to a soft green. He watched as they filled with tears and was able to feel a single tear fall onto his forehead. He wanted to tell her everything would be ok, that he didn't hate her. He had loved her so much, how could he ever hate her? He felt no pain now, and all he wanted to do was to stop her from crying. He mouthed the words "I love you" but when he looked up at her face, it was twisted into something horrific. Was it guilt? His vision was clouding over and he couldn't tell. All at once there was a terrific pain in temple and everything was dark. He could no longer hear, no longer see, no longer feel. "Goodbye, my love" he mouthed as his chest gave one final rise and fell forever.

Ruby had always wanted to see Japan. It was something she had dreamt of when she was little and that dream was still as strong as ever. With her new hair colour - she had chosen a beautiful chestnut brown to match her brown contacts - she was ready to finally go. To make another fresh new start after that night four months ago when she lost control again.
For the most part, Ruby was recovering from the last trauma easier than she had ever thought possible. There had been the initial state of dreaminess that she had felt the previous times, but this time there had been no nightmares. She had lost control two other times and after those times, it had taken her a full year to recover and get on with her life. It was getting easier - and that scared her.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
She lay on her bed in her Toronto apartment looking over her Japanese guide books and practicing her Japanese phrases. It was now only two days until her flight left and she could forget all that had happened. This would be her last new start - no more moves to another city. She had already received a job offer as an English teacher in Japan and she knew once she got there she would be able to find a place to live quite easily. She didn't know anybody there, but she had always had a knack for finding new friends. Ruby had full confidence that this would be her final move. That she would finally find her life that she was happy with, and most of all, she felt confident that she could control her anger from now on. It scared her to think of killing again, and it scared her even more to think that she might be growing accustomed to it. Nevertheless, Ruby was bound and determined to start a happy new life with a new job and a new look in Japan.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It had been two months since Ruby had landed in Japan and she was having the time of her life. Her new job was amazing, she was making friends with the other teachers, and she had already found a great apartment to live in. There was even a man who had become interested in her - Jack. Her and Jack had spent some time touring the sights recently and she'd really come to like him. She could feel that this man might be "the one". She had never felt like this with the others - maybe that's why they died.
Over the next six months, Ruby and Jack had been spending more and more time together. Ruby moved into Jack's big apartment and they were looking at adopting a child from the local orphanage. Ruby could feel that she finally had control over herself and that nothing bad would happen. She felt guilty that Jack didn't know who she had been when she left Canada, but she had wanted to leave all that behind. Besides, Jack loved her for who she was now, why bother him with petty details of her life before moving here. Ruby had felt for the first time in what seemed an eternity that she was care free.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Late one Wednesday night after Ruby had finished teaching her night class, she arrived home to find Jack waiting for her with a candlelit dinner prepared. She had never loved him more than that moment when he presented the ring to her and asked her to be his wife. It was more than she could have ever hoped for. This was what she always wanted - to live a life free of worry and free from her anger. She had not gotten angry in over a year - things were finally starting to work themselves out.
That night, after making love to Jack, Ruby lay beside him in their bed and listened to him breathe. She had felt a little uneasy since dinner, but it was probably just the shrimp and the excitement she felt. Sleeping never came easily to her, but this night was especially difficult. She finally decided to get up and walk around, that usually takes her mind off of whatever is bothering her.
Out in the kitchen, she stared at the sink. It was full of dirty dishes they hadn't bothered to clean up tonight. Staring, Ruby started to feel more and more uneasy. It didn't feel like the shrimp, this was something else. Something familiar but she couldn't quite place it. She kept staring at the plates. They were so filthy. Pieces of food stuck on them that she knew wouldn't come off easily. "Why did Jack want to leave them? He knows I hate cleaning them the day after" she thought. Something wasn't right. She had to get out of that apartment. She didn't like what she was feeling.
Walking to the door, Ruby stepped on a fork that had fallen on the floor. She tried to keep her cool, telling herself it was only an accident, but something in her stirred. She picked up the fork and walked calmly to the bedroom to her sleeping fiancé.
Ruby looked at Jack sleeping soundly and she felt something horrific building up inside her. There was no way to stop it now, she knew. What was going to happen was going to happen and there was no way she could stop it.
As she raised her arm with the fork still in it, she caught a glimpse of something shiny on the floor. One of her contacts had fallen out, but she didn't have time to retrieve it. There was hardly any time for Jack to wake up and see his love plunge the fork into his chest.
The pain didn't hit him right away. What he felt first was shock. Shock that the woman he had just proposed to was driving a fork into his chest with the inhuman strength. She wasn't making a sound. Just staring at him with one grey eye and one brown. "Grey?" he thought.
Ruby saw him laying there with the fork sticking out right where his heart should be. She knew she had stabbed him with precision. She had always somehow known where to stick that fork in. It felt like hours had passed as she watched the blood pour from his mouth and watched his breathing grow faster and more laboured. She felt numb. It was not until he whispered "I love you" with his dying breath that her grey eye turned to that soft green and she started to cry. She had just destroyed everything that was good in her life. As she knelt down beside Jack, she put her hands on his head to comfort him. He turned his head as much as he could to look at her. He knew she was sorry - maybe she could even call an ambulance and then they could get back to their lives. They could forget this ever happened and live happily ever after.
Ruby saw in Jack's eyes that he still loved her. She had never hated him more. All of her previous lovers had this same look while she murdered them - the look of forgiveness. It was then she stood up, her hands still on either side of Jack's head. With one strong jerk, she heard the bones in his neck snap and he fell limp.
That was it. It was over. She felt relieved. No longer did she feel afraid she wouldn't recover because she already had in the few minutes since that initial stab. She looked down at Jack's lifeless body and knew what came next.
