Warning - this is a very politically themed post.

Why the fuck is Congress wasting time questioning MLB players about steroid use? Don't they have better things to do?

There IS one reason I can think of though that would make sense to explain why this issue is getting the attention of our legislators and therefore the press: to take our attention away from the other things being done in Washington, DC.

Think about it, it seems very logical. Congress makes a big deal about a couple of baseball players getting accused of using performance enhancing drugs, hypes it up and gets the media involved. It becomes front page news because those in control of our media have already gotten people more interested in things with entertainment value than those things that let us know what is going on in our world.

So while our citizens lavish their artificially short attention spans on whether or not guys like Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa used steroids, our elected politicians can slip dastardly legislation and actions past us. They can support the greedy and bigoted agenda of our president with only a few noticing. These few are then denounced as "liberal traitors" "wackos" and "hippy scum" so that no one listens to them. Never mind that many of these people are our most educated and informed citizens, just go back to focusing your attention on the Baseball Scandal, American Idol, Survivor, video games, etc. etc. etc...

They want us to pay no mind to the fact that they have authorized drilling in the Alaskan National Wildlife Refuge, an area designated by President Dwight D. Eisenhower as land which should be saved from being spoiled by man. Many of you have already argued that "we are only drilling in a small part of the refuge" and "drilling is for the betterment of man and saving it is only for the animals". You all look past the fact that it was specifically created to save a small piece of wilderness for our future generations, and that drilling of any sort spoils the mission of its creation.

You allow this wilderness, OUR CHILDRENS' POSTERITY (if you don't know what posterity is look in the Declaration of Independence and in a dictionary) to be destroyed so that you can have gasoline that costs $2.00 instead of $2.50 a gallon, and this redneck president and his cronies in congress and in the oil and automobile industries can get rich.

You allow these politicians to give themselves and your slave-drivers (big corporations and the wealthy) tax breaks, while they make it harder for you to declare bankruptcy after you get injured on the job working for them and then have to pay medical bills. Never mind that they already pay you measly wages and give you no benefits.

They cut funding for your children's schools, ensuring that they will get no farther in life than you. They want to put your retirement money (social security) into their pockets by letting you squander it in the stock market.

Where are they rich conservatives when you and your family are our on the street? They will be in their million dollar homes warm and well fed. Do you think they are going to help you get back on your feet? Hell no! They will let you rot in the gutters!

WAKE UP AMERICA! Especially you "red states". They have you tricked now, but there is still an opportunity to reverse it before its too late. Let's make it clear to our politicians that they work for US. Let's make it clear to them that we are not going to take them getting rich off of us any longer!

So now that you have sat through my long diatribe, you can do two things. You can go back to reading about baseball and steroids, or you can take a few minutes and check what your politicians have been up to lately. I'll even link it for you so laziness is no excuse.

hahahahahahaha.

This is an old post, and I didn't realize it, so I commented, and the commented ended up being the same as the original one, though this one wasn't abbreviated.

Fags getting married, baseball players taking steroids, and people taking their own wine to restaraunts! WHO CARES?"

I wrote this article about Bonds and steroids a while back, but it wasnt taken very well. Now with the recent going ons in MLB, it seems a little more on topic.

The more and more I spend time on this site I realize how much current-event posts are just rehashes of Daily Show newsflashes.

I'll be honest, I didnt read all of this. But I think the answer to your question is pretty obvious.

Steroids are illegal. Plain and simple.
----------------------
So are the more powerful, more potent, more dangerous, more addictive drugs taken by how many hundreds of millions of Americans, but somehow a few sportstars are worthy of congress wasting time on them?

For a parliament to spend time on individuals I'd expect the nation to be only a few thousand people; not quarter of a billion.

Hmmmm, I'm going to have to say that steroids are LEGAL, as far as US law is concerned.

Their use in most sports (MLB included) is illegal, though. Unless a player has documented health issues that require the use of steroids, it is not permitted. The MLB, as an organization, should not even have to take ANY action at all on the matter if they so choose. It is an in-house problem, and should be adressed as such.

These hearings are a grand misuse of congressional power, and if you have read anything about what's actually going on in the hearings, you would see that it's a fucking circus.

You capitalized American and the entire word AMERICA.
*gasp* You must be one hell of right-winger!

By using the phrase "our children's posterity" I was attempting to convey the fact that we should be preserving some wilderness for our children, their children, etc, etc.

In that context it does work.

------------

Ummm....no, sorry, it doesn't.

I know what you were getting at, and it makes sense, but you phrased it wrong. You should have just said "posterity". The word "children's" is not necessary. Trust me. ;)

It reminds me of the time back in 1997 when the federal government put together a task force to investigate the rap music industry (after Tupac and B.I.G. got shot).

Funny how they spent all that time and money "investigating" and both cases remain unsolved. In fact the B.I.G. case is closed.

Trust no one
The truth is out there
etc. etc.

---------------

You should really take yur own advice there, fella. The usage of the word 'posterity' is wholly incorrect in that context. You wouldn't say, "our children's posterity" unless you were speaking of your children's children.

In that post I insinuate that Major League Baseball, it's owners, managers, trainers, and even the Commissioner's office was part of a conspiracy to increase offensive production.

WASHINGTON -- In a room filled with humbled heroes, Mark McGwire hemmed and hawed the most. His voice choked with emotion, his eyes nearly filled with tears, time after time he refused to answer the question everyone wanted to know: Did he take illegal steroids when he hit a then-record 70 home runs in 1998 -- or at any other time?

Asked by Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Md., whether he was asserting his Fifth Amendment right not to incriminate himself, McGwire said: "I'm not here to talk about the past. I'm here to be positive about this subject."

Asked whether use of steroids was cheating, McGwire said: "That's not for me to determine."

To a couple of other questions, all he would say is: "I'm retired."

If I cold bash him in the head with a crowbar I would...

Awww. I think this is kind of cute.

A few niggling little things bothered me though . . . OUR CHILDREN'S POSTERITY for example. You could have left it with either children or posterity, but by saying our children's posterity, you are sort of excluding our children. And you may want to re-think your suggestion to look up the definition of that term in the Declaration of Independence. Just stick with the dictionary, and then maybe take your own advice.

I appreciate the fact that you are correct in that oftentimes the media gets distracted from the really important issues of the day. And while I think that steroid use in professional sports may have a wider-ranging negative impact on our culture and society than you do, I can easily see how you include this as one of these distractions.

However, when you segue into the environmentalist argument, you lose me a bit. Telling you why and how might take too long, so I'll leave that for now, since I have to get back to work.

Still, all that being said, I think it is nice that you took the time to write this all out. It isn't the best political rant that I've ever seen, but it shows some promise.

I am no democrat, but I agree with what you are saying in this post. My boss had this crap on the TV all damned day yesterday (I could have been watching any of the cases going on in our courthouse, but no, I'm watching this waste of time). Why they are spending time on this is beyond me. Let them use steroids and die of a heart attack. Not my decision, not my problem.
