It seems there has been a lot of confusion amongst readers of ubersite.com recently with regards to a comment made by myself, Arlen, on a recent post by "littlemiss" aka Kelly. Perplexingly enough, it seems that a lot of people have jumped to the conclusion that just because I have made a comment such as the one above, I am automatically deemed to be not only myself, but also Littlemiss.
Obviously this is the easiest scenario to envision, but I must disappoint my detractors and clear my name once and for all. As mentioned in my first post, which was a probing analysis of music, I am quite proficient with technology. As such I have become profoundly interested in internet security, and as such am running various research projects for a thesis I am currently working on titled "The Internet: How Secure Are You - A Brief Summary Of Cyber Terrorism And Helpful Tips To Ensure Your Computer Systems Remain Secure For Dummies" [as a side note, I am willing to email the finished product to anyone if interested, please leave your email on this post or email me arlen_james1984.at.yahoo.com]
I doubt this requires further explanation and should be painfully obvious to you now what has occurred, but for those of you who require further clarification, this will be provided. As you have all probably guessed, part of this research thesis involves me testing security systems on the internet, including passwords.
I thought it would be interesting to take a sample of how easy or difficult it is to obtain access to different demographics internet accounts, and one of the sites I chose to use as a sample is Ubersite; congratulations everyone :)
So as you can probably guess, I randomly selected Littlemiss' account, and after some social engineering which involved reading her posts, I guessed her password. Her password was iluvdogs - very cute.
Unfortunately Im quite adventurous and thought it would be amusing to try and be Littlemiss, even if it was just to rate her own post. Unbeknownst to me however, I somehow logged out of the Littlemiss account and back into my own account, then proceeded to rate the post charading as Littlemiss.
Although Im aware that what I did was wrong, please note that it was purely for the purpose of research and to increase internet security. I have contacted Littlemiss and have apologised. I can understand her hurt at what I have done, but I have provided her with a draft of my thesis and some useful tips to avoid similar events taking place in the future. She ensures me she has since changed her password.
So to briefly summarise; I am apologetic for my actions, but will continue to push the boundaries to ensure systems remain secure, I am not an "altar" or a "shenanigan" - I am Arlen and I will continue to contribute thoughtful and logical posts, please contact me if you are interested in obtaining a copy of my thesis once completed.
