-inspired by JMG's post "What's Your Favorite Color" http://www.ubersite.com/m/18260
My response was too long for a review, so I made it a post. Thank you, JMG for your inspiration.

My favorite color is pink. Not just any pink, but the hue of a freshly spun cone of cotton candy like the kind I used to get at the county fair as a child. The county fair was one of those places that when you are an adult it's bland and a waste of time and money...but when you're a kid, it's amazing. I remember every year I looked forward to it. I counted down the months, then the weeks, then the days until that wonderful day that I would get to run wild at the fair grounds, ride rides, eat cotton candy and candy apples, and try to win that one prize that every kid has their eye on.

When I was little, I remember saying "I wish I was old enough to drive my mom's car", "I wish I was old enough to get a tattoo", "and I wish I were grown up." All of those wishes were gone to waste. If I had any wish right now, it would be to be young again. I'm only 20 and that, to many, is still considered young, but I mean YOUNG...seven or eight years old, running around the playground, swinging on the swings and sliding down the slides. What I wouldn't give to ride my bike down the road, putting caution to the wind and disobeying my parents by going beyond my grandparent's house.

I hated school when I was a child. I hated everything about it and I hated high school just as much, but what I wouldn't give to be able to redo it all. That is the life, being a full-time kid...sitting in a class full of your peers learning and socializing, making fun of the teacher behind her back, playing kickball on the baseball field for a special treat and pizza parties for those who got all their points on Accelerated Reader. I remember once a week we would be allowed to have a go on the new computers in the "Mac Lab." To us, those Macintosh computers were the best in the world and they were just for us. We didn't know that they were really crappy as kids; all we cared about was if the computer we got had Number Munchers, The Secret Island of Dr. Quandry or Amazon Trail.

And how awesome was SNES? We didn't need the latest and greatest in game console technology to be entertained. I could sit and play Mario and Donkey Kong for hours upon hours, only coming up for air and an occasional meal every once in awhile. And how great was it when you beat that final boss and rescued the princess or got that one last big banana? It was the best feeling in the world for an 8 year old and you didn't want your friends to leave because it was time for a celebration for your accomplishment.

How about your first sleepover? There is nothing like that anticipation of the week before that night and the excitement and slight fear of all the fun you just know you're going to have. If you're a girl you sit around doing each others hair, telling secrets and playing Truth or Dare. Guys, well I don't know what guys did, I've never asked... but I'm sure it was just as fun and memorable.

Life was just so less complicated when you were a kid. You didn't care about war and bills and gas prices. You just cared about whether or not you would get the "good swing" on the playground during recess or what cartoon character you wanted on the plates and napkins at your birthday party or if you could find the toy in the cereal box before your brother or sister. If I had one wish tonight, it wouldn't be for a new car or a home of my own or the perfect boyfriend or even to win the lottery. It would be to be a kid again, just for one day, to remember that feeling of perfect bliss in the small things in life that we took for granted. So, I ask of you, just as JMG did...sit back and think about your favorite color, think of everything associated with it and where you were when you decided that was your favorite color and see where it takes you.

I know exactly how you feel.

When I was a kid I couldn't wait to be an adult. Now that I'm a adult, I wish I were a kid.

It sucks.
