Hi everyone, before I start I think we should get introductions out of the way. My names Arlen and I've been reading uber for a few days now and I'm totally addicted. There are some really great writers on this site but there are also some really bad ones, hopefully I will fall into the former as opposed to the latter, lol.
Lately I've been listening to a lot of the new music the kids these days like to listen to, and I have noticed that they don't make music like they used to. There are no longer revolutionary and great bands of the 70s and 80s that there used to be. Although I am too young to have been around in this era, I have gone through and listened to some of my parents records and have found some truly great musical compilations.
These bands and artists changed the face of music and paved the way for the bands of today. Some of my favorites include: The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, Pink Floyd, Queen, ACDC, Ziggy Stardust, Billy Joel, Duran Duran, BTO, Bruce Springstein, The Village People, U2, and Jefferson Starship.
If you haven't heard of any of these bands or artists I strongly suggest you download some of their material. A useful search engine I use for downloading music is Kazaa [pronounced kaz-ah]. This can be downloaded at www.kazaa.com.
I know this may upset some readers, so please -2 me into oblivion, but looking at the bands of today, although there are some good ones, I fail to see any of the great bands of yesteryear. Bands such as Good Charlotte, Blink 182 and Simple Plan, although being great musicians and writers in their own merits, are hard to compare favorably to the bands of years of gone by.
Then there are bands such as Slipknot and Metallica who, to put it bluntly, have little to no talent and seem to offer little worth musically and socially. Bands such as this promote little positive value to society, and their music lacks the depth of previous eras musicians, as mentioned above. Attempts to push the boundaries of music have been stalled by such bands attempts at shock value.
However, in the last 15 years since I have been listening to music, there has been one genre of music which has captured everyone's attention. This of course is rap and rnb. Since the foundations of this genre were set by the likes of NWA and Vanilla Ice, this flamboyant style of music has become the forefront of popular culture today. Great acts such as Eminem and his band D12, as well as Jay Z who now collaborates with Linking Park, and many others are now creating great music that will allow this current era to be looked upon for generations to come as a golden age of music.
In the last 30 years the face of music has changed and has progressed to a new, different and exciting level. Hopefully you can all adapt and enjoy todays music as I have, and embrace it in a positive manner. I would be interested to know your feelings on this, so please feel free to discuss your opinions on my post and music of different era's.

Metallica has no talent? Kirk Hamet's guitar playing can fuckin' slay Tom DeLonge's shitty 3 chord progressions any day. KaZaA is also dead buddy. BitTorrent is what the kids are using these days. I suggest you pick up an 1/8th of KB and listen to some Grateful Dead and then try to tell me about good music. Skank.

-16 for calling Metallica unmusical. Have you ever listened to Nothing Else Matters? In fact, how many Metallica songs have you listened to?
_______________
Why is it that whenever Metallica is insulted, the only thing you dipshit fans can come up with is a reference to "Nothing Else Matters"? The same thing happened on one of my posts. Could it be that Metallica only ever produced one piece of music, albeit a pretty boring one anyways? If all you can come up with when your favourite anti-band is insulted is "uhh...well..UUH...NOTHING ELSE MATTERS ROCK ON METALLICA WOO LOL ROFL" then I think that speaks more about Metallica than you know.

The only people Metallica ever influenced were hopeless dickbags with no taste for real music. Metallica is the worst thing to ever be called a band in the history of the world. I am ashamed to be a member of the same species as them. One time one of my brother's friends came over to our house and started playing Metallica on my guitar in our living room. I kicked him out of the house and he has never spoken to my brother since.

You were making some good points up until that comment. Never, EVER equate amount of money made to talent, unless you feel like admitting that Britney Spears, MC Hammer, The Baha Men, The New Kids On The Block, etc. are/were loaded with talent.

I think pretty much every New metal band, rock band of the late 80's (including underground and mainstream) lists Metallica as an influence.
Kirk Hammet (while some list him as merely a pentatonic player) still influenced countless bands/guitarists.
Dave Mustaine, clearly the inventor of an entire genre of music (along with James Hetfield) influenced countless guitarists as well.
How can you say Metallica did nothing to influence bands these days? LINKIN PARK LISTS THEM AS AN INFLUENCE TOO DIPSHIT! Tell me, why do over 100,000 albums sold and a 22 year career just *SCREAM* talentless? Oh wait, that's right, you're a no-talent hack.
In 2000, they launched the Summer Sanitarium tour, which they headlined. They didn't even have an album or even a SINGLE out, yet the tour made millions of dollars.
The only "rnb" (it's R & B, fucktard) or rap "artist" (and I use the term VERY loosely here) that can even step to that is LL Cool J, because he was a founder of Rap, back in the 80's.
In the words of many, pwn3d, bitch.

The only bands of "today" that you mentioned were nothing but radio-friendly, corporate-molded groups of banal mediocrity. There are PLENTY of talented, amazing bands and musicians making music right now that you probably have no idea exist because you don't search for good music, you only wait for it to come to you. I bet you're one of those people who thinks life washes over you like a wave. Here's a few bands/artists and albums for you to check out that make everything on the radio look silly and childish:
Devin Townsend
- Ocean Machine
- Infinity
- Terria
Porcupine Tree
- Stupid Dream
- In Absentia
Orphaned Land
- Mabool: The Story of the Three Sons of Seven
Opeth
- Damnation
- My Arms, Your Hearse
- Blackwater Park
There's more to music than fucking Led Zepplin and Pink Floyd and I'm getting sick of all you elitists knocking everything else that isn't one of those two bands.

You are a perfect example of what is wrong with the world today. Rap should not be considered music because they dont make "music". They sample others music and put their own words over it, And add some heavy bass. Just to get the trunk to rattle so you "look cool" riding down the street with your lisence plate rattling off the back of your nissan. While your riding on spinner hub caps. I think that you need to re-examine your perception of what actually takes talent to create. Thank you and GOOD NIGHT!!

I think the reason you guys dont like rap is because youve been exposed to commercial rap as opposed to underground rap. In my opinion both are great but underground rap has a certain raw flavor that is somewhat lacking in commercial rap. Try downloading some material by DMX, Nas or NWA from www.kazaa.com.
You wont be dissappointed!! :)

1) This is not a website to post reports for your high school english/history class, as was the general style of this post.
2) The current era of hip hop and RnB will NOT be EVER known as a "golden age" of music. Maybe to yourself, being that you are obviously one of the kids that listen to most of the utter cuntdrool that is being generated by the hip hop "industry". Hip hop has become mainstream, and whenever something becomes mainstream, it becomes commercialized and bullshit. The same thing happened to most of the bands of years gone by, and will continue to happen for the rest of time.
3) Im bored with this rating now. -2DIE!

Here are some actual punk bands (with talent): Anti-Flag, Mindless Self Indulgence, Operation Ivy and Dead Kennedys. No, Green Day, like Offspring, are not punk. The Dookie and Smash cds are, but those are the only cds that could be considered "punk" from those bands.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Anti-Flag fuckin BLOWS. They used to be good when they had their less bitchy-sounding singer, but now they're even worse than Good Charlotte and those other shit bands.
Operation Ivy is ska, and ska sucks, even if it does have a semi-punk feel to it. Fuck all ska.
Mindless Self Indulgence? The only Mindless Self Indulgence I've heard is some weird-ass-homosexual-synthesizer-techno-electro-metal-I can't even begin to try and classify them, band. Catchy, though.
And thanks for telling us which greenday and offspring CD's are "punk", dipshit, we all appreciate it.

Who the fuck is Linking Park?
As far as great artists go, here's my list of current favourites:
- Radiohead (always)
- The Killers
- The Strokes
- Foo Fighters
- Sigur Ros
- The Stills
- Jaga Jazzist
- UNKLE
- Weezer
- Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
- The Doobie Brothers
- Led Zeppelin
- Supertramp
etc.
Oh, and by the way: this sucked. The only thing more cliche than a "where did music go wrong" post is a "first post" post, and you managed to combine the two into an exponential phenomenon known as:

Bonjour Fingafans,
A bit of an international newsletter this one, but still, a neatly packaged chunk of info with all things happening in the mad world of Fingathing. The guys may have been holed up in the studio for a while but judging by the sounds bouncing off the walls, what you will hear next is going to be mega!
Gigging glory
The first chance to hear it will probably be in Texas. Peter Parker and Sneaky will be playing the states South by Southwest (SXSW) festival at Zero Degrees in Austin on March 17th. The only non-indie/rock act to make the journey from the UK and one of the only leftfield acts in the whole festival, which is sure to turn a few heads or get a fair few hands clapping.

For me, it does not get any worse than rap. Also, Nas, DMX and NWA are not "underground" by any means. These are three of the most common rap artists being blasted by 16 year old dipshits that are taking their mom's shitty SUV out for the night. If you're going to listen to rap, at least do not turn it up loud enough so that other motorists can hear it. Also, learn about old school rap artists like Grandmaster Flash, EPMD, Run DMC, Kool Keith, Bone Thugs n Harmony, Wu Tang Clan, LL Cool Jay, Busta Rhymes, Gangstarr and Sugarhill Gang. Yes, I'm aware that people like Busta Rhymes and Wu Tang Clan may not be old school, but they were still from the early 90s, before rap dominated stereo systems and radio/tv airwaves. Rap went from being just a shitty genre of music to being a joke. The rap songs these days are all so generic and similar, it is like they are inbred.
Simple Plan and Good Charolette are good? Fuck no! These bands do nothing more than cry about, in their songs, their girlfriends breaking up with them. Real punk (that is sarcasm). Furthermore, bands such as Good Charolette and Simple Plan posess zero talent. Their music has no depth and they can not play their instruments for shit. Also, a good majority of their songs are written by people that are outside of the band. Why? Because they suck too much to write/compose decent music themselves.

Answering this on the basis that this is not an alter; you come across as very sheltered and naive.
I have heard all of these bands you quote, they are repeated constantly you could not think anybody does not (shennanigans), they are not the sum of music (not at all) and they have not influenced the best of new music. I call you naive because you have missed out Reggae and Rave (that including Jungle, House n stuff).
You have quoted all these bands and say how they have changed the face of music, now many will say I am wrong, but I feel that the big change in music in the last 20 years has been the progress in making music electronically, beat mixing, turn tabelism and the experiments in rhythm flow. Your bands had nothing to do with this.
If you want to know what has really been going on, download and listen to all of this:
Drum and Bass:
LTJ Bukem (everything), Roni Size (brown paper bag), any Andy C sets, also Aphrodite, DJ Hype,
Jungle:
Remarc, Shy FX, Foul Play,
Hardcore (you will hate this)
Sets by DJ Sy, Force and Styles and Record labels such as: Kniteforce, Slammin Vinyl, Blatent Beats
Reggea:
Beres Hammond, Sanchez, Ghost, Richie Spice Sizla, Warrior King, Glen Washington, Damian "Junior" Gong Marley and of course Bob Marley
Dancehall Ragga:
Elephant man, TOK, Beenie Man, Assasin and Cecile
Not every track by the above is a classic, but they are a great starting point.

I don't know if you thought that...well jeez...I don't even know what you were thinking. But really...do you really believe that anyone bad or good would have made it anywhere if they were talentless? The bands that you put down...wow. You keep getting all pissy with these people for arguing with your musical tastes but the only reason they're posting all these horrible this is because this is UBER!!! That's what assholes like us do on here. You have to earn their respect (not mine, I don't matter worth a fuck on this site). You can't say they don't like to read quality stories or check out links worth their time...but your post provided neither. So, the next time that you feel like taking the time to post something like this...please please consider what you're doing. But then again...i've spent more time laughing at how people are just killing you over and over again and how you keep coming back with smiley faces...until now. You imbecile, don't look straight past my argument and forget that you are rubbish.
The post sucked, I didn't jump on any bandwagon, plus I was the first person to call shenanigans, not the first person to say you sucked, that much is hardly surprising.
I still call shenanigans... prove me wrong, you are an alter that is here to bait people into an argument with you. I myself unfortunately have slipped into a debate about said topic, and so probably look all the more foolish for recognising this as nonsense and still giving it the time of day.
Everyone knows now that you are an alter so give it up.

Dear Mrwolf:
Clearly you have used the opinion of others as to back up ur own belief, or more likely, to assist you in bullying someone of uber who has talent.
---
Not really a stupid comment is it? Its a backed up argument. Several people have commented that you're an alter, if you're really not an alter then what does that tell you?
Maybe in some fucked up universe you truly do like rap music despite being raised on rock and roll. Maybe you really do appreciate the 'YMCA', despite the fact the song is a complete joke, and even more incredibly you're the sort of person who feels the need to tell everybody the correct way to pronunciate Kazza... But I doubt it.
If you are yet another alter, here for the sole purpose of getting hits out of the gullible then please leave.
If you truly are of the opinion that rap music has any talent then please... please leave.
----
Wow, so other people think Im an alter so all of a sudden you jump on the bandwagon and decide to join in? Way to go, follower. I specifically enjoyed the way you scutinized their "-2 Noob DIE" comments, but didnt scrutinize mine. Man, you are such a dumbass I cant believe I am argueing with you. Twice now I have totally put your poor, poor arguement to shame. Please, promise me you will become intelligent before reviewing again?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now you're trying to bait me... I'm stupid for keeping it up, but I am kinda bored.
I think you'll find I was the first person to call shenanigans on this whole sordid affair, so I'm jumping on no ones band wagon. I still don't know what you're talking about with regard to the whole "-2 die" thing...
Please explain in a coherant manner so that we can discuss this like adults.

---
It was when I read this review that I decided that you're probably another Uber-user that's trying to stir up shenanigans.
1. People will give you a lot of shit for announcing your first post.
2. Abbrieviations (lol, etc.) are from the devil.
3. Giving yourself +2s (by the way, +2ing your own post doesn't count towards your ratings)- We don't do that here.
4. If you really have been trolling around for a few days, you'd know all of this right now.
So that's why I've figured that you're either an Uber-user posting under a different name (alter) to create shenanigans (false intentionally stupid postings that draw negative scores and shit), or you're REALLY stupid.
Let's hope not the latter, and if so, write this down.

Firstly, thanks for the advise Rawrg, I didnt realise. Sorry for the offence if any was caused :)
Secondly, to the people who are ripping on some of the bands mentioned, you obviously have little comprehension of the history of music. These bands and artists not only inspired many of the bands you listen to today, but changed the history of music all together. Just because you dislike these bands does not change the fact they have been extremely influential in the progression of music. I suggest you download some of their material and listen to them first BEFORE passing judgement.
Thirdly, apologies if I caused any offence to anyone over my Kazaa comments/explanation, I was just trying to give some people who may not be as well equipped and enlightened on the internet as you and me. Sorry, but I didnt realise the program was so recognised.

Let me start by saying i hate rap. let me go further and say anyone buying a rap recording is being ripped off, if you have to listen to it then steal it by downloading it from Kazaa or a similar program. dont be a sheep when it comes to music.
Sorry dood but music is close to my heart and i grew up in the era you speak of and man some of those bands you named did not do much for the industry. Duran Duran (boofheads with some musical talent), BTO (great sound but ran out of material), The Village People (this one made me laugh, come onnnnnnnnn YMCA?) ,Jefferson Starship (lerdy).
If you want to listen to music that changed the face of rock listen to bands like The Rolling Stones, The Pixies, Sisters of Mercy, The Clash, Iggy Pop or Joy Division, shit i could go on here but id have to go through my collection. If you wanna get down and dirty listen too some George Thorogood or Bad Co or get a little punked out with The Romones or the Dead Kennedy's. i have only named a smattering of real bands with real talent there are more but im sure you get the picture.
Bye the way Ziggy Stardust is David Bowie.

"A useful search engine I use for downloading music is Kazaa [pronounced kaz-ah]. This can be downloaded at www.kazaa.com."
-2 for assuming we are all stupid and don't know anything about Kazaa or how to pronounce it.

Metallica have not revolutionised music, and they have not created a positive influence on either society or the musical community in any way.
They provide nothing but meaningless music and lyrics created for the masses who like to be "different" by listening to something they dont think anyone else enjoys. Theyre also a bad influence on youth and encourage drug abuse and violence. They have not bought anything of value to anything.

Tell me, how the fuck does someone read Uber and not catch the drift that using "lol" will end up with you snorting crushed glass off of a fat Iraqi hooker's ass while being butt-fucked by Bush as he shouts, "You like my WoMD, you little bitch?! HUH?!"

-1 for inappropriate use of "lol"
-1 for hackneyed cliche "listening to a lot of the new music the kids these days like to listen to, and I have noticed that they don't make music like they used to"
+1 because cliche is correct in this case
-1 because rap sucks ass
