A lot of people give me shit for listening to Rush. I guess it's understandable; they're not exactly the coolest three guys on Earth. Their music, while very recognizable, is often overlooked. Most people have only heard Tom Sawyer, if that. But if people bother to delve in to Rush's extensive library, they're often scared (or bored) away by their vast, almost orchestral music, and songs that go on for 10+ minutes. In today's world, people just don't have time to listen to a song for 10 minutes, and that's understandable.
But for those who stick with it and really give Rush a fair listen, it usually pays off (at least it did for me). First, there's Geddy Lee's bass playing. Every time I listen to 2112 Overture or YYZ, a chill runs down my spine. The bass is as tight and precise as it gets. When listening to any live Rush, it's hard to find any spot where Geddy falters. His bass playing was part of the reason I picked up a bass. Also, to get pussy, but that hasn't panned out too well.
Then there's Neil Peart's drumming. All I need to do is point to the 8 minute drum solo in the link at the bottom of the page. I don't know about anyone else, but this just blows my mind. I can't even really call it a drum solo, there are so many other percussion elements incorporated. And I spent 3 years in the percussion section of the band in middle school, so I think I'm more than qualified to say this.
The guitar, while good, does not stand out as much as the bass and drums. All I'll say about this is that it is a very good foundation for the rest of the band.
The only real fault I can find in Rush is Geddy's voice. You'll be pretty hard pressed to find a more annoying voice than this. His high pitched squeal is, at times, comparable to that of a car being fisted. I'll let you picture that for yourself. The only voice I can think of that's as annoying as Geddy's is Billy Corgan (don't get me wrong, I love the Smashing Pumpkins, but Jesus).
Aside from that, Rush is a steamy pile of musical goodness. With fluid bass and drums, solid guitar that lays a great foundation, and scenic soundscapes, Rush is probably one of, if not the, tightest bands of the last 20 years.

I listened to moving pictures when it first was released and quickly dismissed it. a couple of years later i was going through my albums came across it and decided to give it another chance.
20 years later i still listen to that album like once a month.

Auto +2 for being a fellow bass player.
I don't know any of Rush's stuff, except for "One Little Victory" because it was on the Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 soundtrack... and I like that. I'm trying to ILLEGALLY DOWNLOAD those two songs you mentioned so I can get a better idea of Geddy's playing abilities. I'll let you know of my thoughts.

As a fellow bass player I have to agree, the Geddy/Peart foundation of Rush cannot be denied for its tightness!
automatic +2 for Rush

In controlled performance testing K-Y® Brand ULTRAGEL™ and K-Y® Brand Liquid Personal Lubricant are far superior lubricants, since they are smoother and last longer than K-Y® Brand Jelly
