There is one thing that I really hate about election season: Campaign road signs.
I really don't understand it. If you really support your candidate and want to put a bumper sticker on your car or a little sign in your front yard to show your partisan loyalty, fine. Good for you.
My problem is with all the damn littering. In my little outing to West Virginia last weekend, I drove by hundred and hundreds of these damn things. Apparently, WV doesn't have any restrictions on how many campaign signs, truck tires, or mullets you have on your own yard, or any public property for that matter.
Do people think they actually make a difference? If a Republican puts 50 Bush/Cheney signs up at a public school, do the Democrats need to be damn sure they come up with 51 Kerry signs to make sure the election is fair? Can it possibly matter? Is there some subliminable effect that I don't know about?
Maybe it does <Vote Jonukah> make a difference in West Virginia. Maybe those few undecided inbred idiots that <Vote Jonukah> make it to the polls on their 1972 Dodge pickup will end up <Vote Jonukah> clicking on a candidate for the sole reason that they happen to recognize the particular string of characters in the <Vote Jonukah> candidate's name from seeing so many <Vote Jonukah> damn road signs. That is, only if they can work through the computerized system in the first place.
I don't know, maybe that is an unfair assessment of West Virginia.
But I do hate those signs. And they didn't shake my vote.

I swear that I don't know a thing about all of those Kerry/Edwards signs in my neighborhood with day-glo W's painted on them.

What I enjoy is when one person on the street puts up a sign and then a shit storm gets started. It is pretty telling as to how divided the country is when I go through the neighborhood and see a fairly even split of signs. Of course around here there is big controversy about people (gasp) stealing the signs.

so wait a minute, are you implying that by stealing bush/cheney signs this summer, I was actually cleaning the environment?
I like the sound of that argument.

Most local governments have ordinances that could fine the candidate if the sign is not removed within 2-3 weeks.
