A continuation of: http://www.ubersite.com/m/40552

I awoke to the sound of battle and the bright light of dawn. I brought my hand up to shield my eyes from the morning light, but it could not shield me from the onslaught of images and memories from the events of the day passed that my aching body would not soon let me forget. I brought the palms of my hands up to my temples, pressing, as if I could I could squeeze the thoughts to the back of my brain to give me a moments piece. But even if I could, the sounds that awoke me would instantly bring them pouring back into the forefront of my mind. The forefront...........The Front......The Battle. It was not over, and the red dawn brought no comfort.

Today.....................it would end. I roused myself from the couch and threw on the shirt I had discarded the night before. As I picked up my weapon and headed up towards my bedroom, I replayed the events of the night before in my mind.......from right where we left off.

******************************************************************************

They're coming!

I was in my father's office at his computer, and I had just finished sending my SOS transmission. I heard buzzing behind me at the door to the office, and I instinctively ducked under the desk for cover. I rolled to the opposite side and slowly raised myself, until I could just see over the desk to the open door. The buzzing grew louder and I held my breath. Sure enough, three hornets flew by the doorway, weaving slowly back and forth through the air......searching. Scouts. I didn't have time to think about how they got through my closed bedroom door. Though threw weren't enough to do any damage, if they discovered my location and reported back to the hive, I would be in a world of hurt.

With lighting speed I dashed through the doorway, swatter in hand. One was dead before it knew what hit it. The other two stayed suspended in the air momentarily, in fear and awe at the ferocity of my attack. Before I recovered from the tremendous swing of my swatter, the two of them split in the hallway, one heading for the window in the foyer, the other straight back to my bedroom. The former meant nothing to me, it would die in stupidity never understanding the nature of the transparent window pane that separated it from freedom. The latter, on the other hand, could bring a formidable force against me if it got back to the hive.

I chased the little bugger down the hallway towards my room. With three great bounds of my legs I reached the end of the hallway, but the hornet was even faster than I. It disappeared at the top of the door and I understood my previous folly. What I thought was an impenetrable wall had one small weakness. Wear and time had warped my door frame, leaving a small crack at the top of the door at one side, mall enough to escape unnoticed by my piercing eye, but large enough for a hornet to slip through.

Immediately, I heard what sounded like the hum of a high-voltage generator. My little scout had done its work, reporting back to the hive and riling up the others. Within seconds half a dozen hornets were through the crack and into the hallway. With rapid fell strokes I dropped them twitching at my feet, but there were hundreds more to come and my endurance was not limitless.

Before I could think up any strategy, I heard my cell phone ringing from inside my room. SOMEONE HAD ANSWERED MY TRANSMISSION! But if I could not get to my phone to answer the call, help would not come, and there were five hundred angry hornets between me and my cell phone. I had to think quickly, the person calling would not wait forever. What I needed was a diversion, a wrench to throw into cogs of my ticking doom to buy me some time. Then, it hit me: My ceiling fan! The spinning blades and light could distract the hornets long enough to get my cell phone. The fan and light were operated by a remote control I had on a mantle just a few feet inside in the door, but could I get it quickly enough to escape their deadly stings?

More hornets squeezed their way through the door and my thoughts were scattered once again as I was plunged back into battle. The phone was on its third ring, and I knew I had to act now, there was no more time for strategy or tactics. I crouched down, ignoring the few hornets left buzzing around my head, then charged, shouldering my way through the bedroom door. I took one great stride, my eyes on the cell phone on my window sill, grabbed my remote control with my left hand, and leapt, diving into the air. Instantly, the hornets honed in upon me. I could hear them buzzing within inches of my exposed skin. I hit both the fan and light button on the remote, knowing at any second I would feel the painful sting of hornet poison coursing through my body......but the sting never came.

I landed in a roll knowing that my plan had worked, but also knowing that I had only a moment before my bought time was spent. With the grace and agility of a cat I rolled my window, planted my left foot against the wall, snatched my cell phone with my right hand, then kicked off against the wall into a backwards roll. With a deft flip of my thumb I opened my cell phone, and yelled, "Hold on!"I was in the center of the room now, directly under the ceiling fan. I felt small taps against my skin and got to my feet, keeping low. I knew that what I felt were falling hornets dead or stunned from the heat of my ceiling light.

I turned towards my door and ran, without a glance at my momentary triumph. Only when I got to the open door, swung around it, and was closing it behind me did I steal a glance at my ceiling fan. Sure enough, one hundred angry hornets were attacking the light, believing it to be their prey and seeking retribution but finding only death. Already, a score of hornets lay dead below the fan. Only when I closed the door behind me did I chance talking on my cell phone. A few quick words and the conversation was over. As I slipped my cell phone into my pocket, I cracked a smile. Help was on the way, and I had bought some time, killing a few hornets on the way.

But would it be enough?

To be continued......

Despite the fact that you confused hornets and wasps...you get free heat!

Just to clarify:

All hornets are wasps.

Hornets are social wasps that create large, paper-like nests. Some hornets, like yellow jackets, are on the smaller side and can sting repeatedly.

Yellow Jackets are what I was up against.

Hornets are wasps, just meaner and with a worse sting. Basically, you don't want to fuck with them.

Damn you!!! This one was too short! It's like the first post was a heap of crack, and now that I'm addicted, this time you only gave me a little sniff. And man, you're good.

And a hornet is like a big bee who is always pissed off. And they dont die after they sting you.

Very good.

And can someone please tell me what the hell a hornet is? Someone on the other post said they're like a yellow jacket, but I have no idea what that is either.

Anyway, good luck with them. They sound mean.
