What happened to the glory days of happy wedlock and the excitement of adopting the male spouse's name? More and more when I hop on a social networking site I see names of girls/women I know with the slight modification of their spouse's adopted name. Yes, I'm talking about the cunts who use hyphens to advocate what I can only imagine is the last modicum of a woman's empowerment. I'm not arguing that women are somehow at a lesser degree of importance to men but when did it become taboo to lose your last name?
I am in full knowledge that traditional marriages are becoming distinct, especially since most families are now two working parent units. Historically a man would support the woman and while this is becoming a decreasing trend I don't know what happened to the time where it was an honor to take the last name of your husband. Besides, eliminating your middle name and replacing it with your middle name just sounds square. It doesn't flow smoothly.
In China I'm sure this shit wouldn't float but what about the sense of dedication lacking in this scenario? Are you so unsure of your marital status as a long lasting, devoted couple, that you can't completely abandon your previous name? Are you ashamed of your husband's last name?
I'll leave it open for debate but whenever I see something so heinous as Von Bueren-Smith or Giuseppi-Clark I want to throw bricks. Hell, I'd even go further to abandon tradition and say that it would be better if you just kept your maiden name. Sure, it might be a bash to the male's ego but for crying out loud, this hyphen shit is mother fucking snakes on a plane!

And that is blasphemy. Hamels has been pretty solid during the playoffs and Pedro has had a Renaissance of sorts as well. Blanton can suck my dick but he at least had one big game. The thing that is really gonna change the face of the pitching in the series is the fact that New York suddenly went to a 3-man rotation with CC, Burnette, and Pettite. Our relievers are better, bar none, and the only equality is the closers--Rivera and Lidge are about equal throughout these playoffs.
Our DH Stairs was a fucking animal last year and so far has been relatively quiet but he didn't wake up until the series last year so we'll see about that.

You ALWAYS root for the NL? Just imagine that the red team is a stupid bird (not even the state bird mind you) and root for us, eh scourgey? I really do think the Phils will pull off another one but more importantly I think the two best teams have reached the World Series (at least as pooled from the playoffs). On the same level of importance I think this is going to be the most exciting WS from the past 7 or 8 years and could bill to be for the next 7 or 8 years. Last years series was boring, drawn out, and completely dominated by the Phils.
If nothing else, you have to be at the very least excited to see 4-5 HRs a game, great pitching match-ups (although I don't agree with Pedro for game 2), and two fairly organized managers. Charlie may be old but he has basebol (for the Ricans) in his blood.
On a semi-related note it was on the radio here today that some woman was arrested for offering sex for World Series tickets advertising herself as a "lifelong Phillies fan who is willing to do anything for tickets. I'm creative and you can be too." I'd fuck a hog for WS tickets, would you?

How could you possibly not understand that, traditonally, women have been viewed as possessions or extensions of their husbands, and now, hopefully, not so much.
With the modern legal system, and the, hopefully, decreasing reliance on superstitions and control tactics (religion)there is less need or real requirement for a woman to get rid of the name that is actually...um...her name.

All my children have taken my surname and their fathers, ith a hyphen.
No other reason than I want them to appreciate both cultures and my family name would die out if I hadn't. That's no biggy but it's nice to continue it.

well, a lot of times if you're looking for someone, you might not know her new married last name, so its easier to find her maiden name.
