Darkon is...wow. This movie (actually a documentary) is about a group of larpers who have taken over Baltiomre, Maryland and turned it into an imaginary country called Darkon.
Now before you start (and I know you're already cracking your knuckles in preperation for a tirade of larping jokes) I do not larp. I loved playing D&D, but I never had the urge to run around beating people with foam swords.
The film centers around a political struggle between the countries of Laconia and Mordrum. Bannor of Laconia (seriously, just bear with me here, ok?) has turned against his old ally Keldar of Mordrum, so now they're going to war.
The amusing part is how dramatic the filmmakers tried to make this all appear with epic music and creative editing. It then interchanges with the players in their regular lives. I can't even explain why I find this movie so interesting, but I just really enjoy watching it.
I think it's mostly because these people are so invested in this thing, that some of them are having trouble seperating it from reality. Taking pleasure from their sadness seem right. Is that wrong? Nah! Didn't think so.
Anyway, it's an interesting look into an overly misunderstood culture, and it's worth watching from an academic approach. I suppose the alternative Judge Dredd. Because that movie was an ass load of cum dripping dog shit.
I guess I'll have to watch it and write a review now. Goddammit!

Ray and I have told you before, the ONE time we took those pics in costume was the year we were going to King Richard's Faire, but the car broke down, so we decided to play around a little since we were already in costume.

I enjoyed the movie.
It cracked me up to see these bozo's in real life.
I liked how you have one guy who had a well thought out "character" who was realitic, studied carpentry of the time, had a real backstory etc then you woudl have some guy who said he was a tree elf who was born when lighting struck a tree during a flood so he was the sone of earth, water and fire. If you see ti that will probably make more sense.
This isn't too far from me and I was tempted to buy a civil war re-enactment costume and crash one of their "wars".
I think it woudl actually be cool if you really fought (with proper safety rules etc) but they have people who have "magic" swords so if they hit your shield you have to drop it.

I tend to collect bad horror flicks, for the Mystery Science Theater laugh aspect, from Japanese to core Giallo, but this seems a must see. And I'd like a piece of this action, staging a nerd-free free-for-all party/massacre turns orgy.
