Quick question.
It's completely self-serving, but hear me out. I've often wondered what you've read and liked on Ubersite- if anyhing. Particularly out of the things I've written. I appreciate your honesty, but if you can't be bothered that's okay too. Cheers.
---
sorry for the late reply, poly - youve been very patient with me over the years, and i appreciate that. ive been avoiding actually looking at this holocaust, but now im hammered enough again to peek, so heres my answer.
i cant tell you many things ive liked and actually rememeber, in fact theres only one that comes to mind, and that is phallic_cymbals' parody of 'the da vinci code' which, in my own limited opinion - bar 2 of my own pieces here (which is pure egotism, but thats how it goes) - is the best thing this site has seen, and outside that i cant remember anything ANYONE else has done. Not one of the 'most viewed' is any better than some random piece of shit on collegehumor. phallic's parody was a genuine piece of postmodern literature, and its things like that that make me think that maybe, just maybe the internet is more than a ready source of porn.
all i can offer is, fuck my opinion, and fuck anyone elses. im probably more learned than anyone else currently on this site about literature, and probably about writing in a genuine professional sense (there was a guy who was a professor who frequented the site for a little while, but he's gone now. nice guy, sucks that hes gone), and all i can tell you is as far as writing goes, if you generally feel its pretty good, then it generally IS pretty goo. and even if it isnt, who gives a fuck - you think youre hemingway?
jeffrey archer, who has spent more time on the NY times #1 best seller spot than any other writer doesnt even write his books. he has a team of writers and he tells them what the idea is for a given chapter, gets them to write them, then the editors piece it all together, slap his big name on the cover and BAM - best seller.
try and tell me literature is some sacred thing.
we're all interesting people. we have our own little lives, and we dont want to leave them without feeling like theres something left after. writing isnt the only way to do that. it just seems like the easiest.

not yet, im busy working at the moment and trying to help get the company my friends and i started going (really close to doing it now too, which is awesome) and dont have the requisite desire to commit to 5+ years (yes they say its a 3 year degree but every phd student youll ever talk to says it takes minimum 5.)

I see what you are trying to say, but you do occasionally come off as a caricature of the "lit-prick." I assume you are probably alright in real life though. You have a PhD now?

and you know what? fuck you d-bags for focussing on one shitty line - this was a good post that has a pretty decent message. sure i fucked it a little with one gay comment, but overall, the sentiment is right on the fucking money, and im glad poly got it.
chicken-necked motherfucker that he is.

i actually rewrote the line about me being more learned (thats with a pronouned 'ed', you fucking savages).
jesus im a tool.
point was, i feel ive had a little more education in those particular areas, and not just in an academic sense. my thesis - which sucked, by the way - was on how current literary theory is inadequate in dealing with the emergent genres of text - in particular online games (MMORPGS) - and that there needed to be new theory to cope with this utterly new mode of communication.
the phd is supposed to supply that theory.
---
you know what. fuck you. im rad. this post was awesome, massive egotism and all, i AM more learnED than any of you cunts about this shit, and im fucking DOING it, not just self-publishing, but fucking doing it. its hard, and i suck so much, but sometimes it works - it just works, and it feels so good, that none of you can understand. its taken three years of writing shite to get to a point that i feel its decent, and now its gotten to a decent point, its like a big, comforting breath.
defensive much?

Thanks Elvis.
The problem I have is I like to read for pleasure, as soon as it becomes a "you have to do this" I lose interest. Arrogance or idiocy, who knows.

I totally agree. You got me to thinking about Joyce... So try this. I swear you won't be disappointed: on a rainy evening, get stoned (or have a tea, penny royal or earl grey with a splash), then--cell phone off, clear your mind-- just start reading Finnigan's Wake (Joyce). It's like salvia/DMT but without a sitter needed. You may throw the book across the room, but you'll have had the experience.
If not going through the looking glass isn't your thing, that's cool. Peace baby.

Let me guess your final essay was a post modern analysis of James Joyces Ulysses?
---
This has little to do with any of this, but read Joyce's "A Portrait of the Artist As a Young Man." Solid Gold. (Ulysses, no way, he went to far, but, the mofo stretched the seams of lit in Ulysses, I'll give him that. He just tried too hard in U. to be diff. The up side is that this directly influenced Virginia Woolfe and Faulkner. Enter stream of consciousness writing. We owe that bastard.

Let me guess your final essay was a post modern analysis of James Joyces Ulysses? Yawn.
The few lit classes I have done I found boring as bat shit. Sometimes I think it is enough just to read something and enjoy it. Not analyse the shit out of it, break it down and dissect it. Besides some fictions only worth is the amount to which it can be studied. I hate virginia woolf, To the lighthouse made me want to poke my own eyes out and my interest in dickens is only the in the retelling value. But then again I'm an idiot. :)

Hahahaha, only reviews could save this.
See what I mean now (concerning the argument which that ball-sack Sleestak Willartstorage or whatever his unholy name was) claiming BoshMan was better than the original, the only, GLALL? Sure, BoshMan was the shit, even compared to GLALL, and I expect he'll hold his title as number 2.
