This is a response to I Find Your Lack Of Faith...Disturbing. http://www.ubersite.com/m/122113
You find our lack of faith disturbing? Are we not allowed to disbelieve the fairytales of past generations? Should I be looking over my shoulder for the big bad wolf too?
I am not going to get into another lengthy debate about god vs atheism. But is pisses me off that we who find god morally, socially, logically and scientifically preposterous and even offensive, have to defend ourselves time and again.
I'm just not getting into it.
But what I will say is this. If we think about it logically and read what we know of the history, we can only come to one conclusion. God was created by a group of men whose main purpose was to CONTROL the minds and hearts of the general population. And keep in mind that I am not saying this IS what happened only that logic implies this is what most likely happened.
I would put forward that peoples belief in "King and Country" for want of a better term, was waning and with paganism already established and having no central leadership or ruling body, there were those in a position of wealth and power, who saw an opportunity to increase both exponentially and jumped in with both feet, creating a new religion.
Later, a break away group who wanted some of the power COPIED all of the pagan holidays and created a set of rules and a central government and went into business. In doing so, they took a man who was either a philosopher or crazy or both and elevated him to the status of a demigod.
The bottom line though, is that the whole concoction was about wealth and power rather than truth.
But back to the matter at hand.
The thing that gets to me is that I don't go around pushing my disbelief in god onto others, yet I have people telling me about god every day which frankly, I find offensive.
Last, but not least, I take the view that if in this day and age it is still ok to advertise god and Jesus on TV and billboards, etc, then why can't we advertise Swingers' Parties and Butt Sex? You say because children shouldn't be exposed to that? Well I say they shouldn't be exposed to god and religion until they are old enough to make an informed choice. Or because it offends members of the community? Well, I'm part of the community am I not?
These days, looking at porn is more main-stream than Christianity. (Not that the two are mutually exclusive either.)
If you don't like the fact that we do not believe the fairytale, don't go around questioning us at every turn. Just FUCK OFF instead. We're sick of it.

c. I agree organized religion is at times shit.

Religion and gods WERE CREATED TO EXPLAIN NATURAL PHENOMENA. It then was used to express moral and ideological dogma. If we are exclusively looking at Abrahamic religions, the Judaeo-Christian Bible primarily consists of battle tactics and genealogy. Now, this isn't to say that religion wasn't corrupted for political power, but that this tool was not intended for that use, and, if in fact it had been created with that purpose in mind it most likely would have failed.

These are mutually exclusive. You're comparing apples to crack. One asks you to put faith in something you can't be sure exists, the other offers physical ecstasy and diseases.
That was all that was here. An incorrect rendering of history and an awful comparison.
I'm not saying the any religion has it right, because I don't think they do. I'm not saying atheism is correct because it's completely nihilistic and hedonistic.
So when this is what is offered I can only assume that you, sir, are, in fact, a moron.

I can do that just fine, Christ one of my best friends LIKED George W. Bush and it didnt kill our friendship, we just didnt talk about it or get into heated debates over it.
Whenever I tell a religious person that I respect their beliefs but I just see things differently, they cant leave it alone

That pisses me off!!!!!...... and i've ended more than one friendship because THEY couldnt leave their "faith" at the door when we were together.

How is ["Zombie Jew god"] any different than the blatent misuse of established scientific definitions and using lines like "people evovled from algae" or just flat out using incorrect information to try and furthur an argument? My very first statement on this issue was to live and let live, but don't try to look down your nose at athiests and pretend to take the moral high ground. How come when somebody questions your religion, they are picking a fight or disrespecting you? If your religion is correct, and your faith in it is a solid as everyone claims, then you should have no problem what-so-ever engaging in a little intelligent questioning.

Hmmm, I'm not questioning that you have faith in something, but rather the validity of that something, especially since faith is a belief that is not based on proof, ie: He had faith that the hypothesis would be substantiated by fact.

What logical point is there in ANY of this? For the bulk of recorded history, people bicker on who has the correct take on religion. Wars are waged, entire populations are extinguished. Now you, who supposedly have the "right" and "enlightened" interpretation, find it terribly productive to do the exact same thing re: the LACK of religion?
