I think douching is mostly a myth. There is no need to do it, and it can cause an imbalance that leads to infection. The body cleanses itself. Girls talk about just about everything, and no one I know has ever mentioned that they douched/douche/will douche.

This is true. Regular douching became popular because vaginas used to be considered "unclean" if they had any odor at all. In the early 20th century, women used to even douche with Lysol! Hardcore.
