The condom did not break
but just the same,
The blood did not come
days passed and nightmares took hold
guilt, regret, denial
a hundred terror notes in tune
a big fat symphony of fear.
And so, without delay
I peeled the foil
and firmly grasped
a pee stick.
I wait with baited breath
chewing the end of a finger,
hoping.
Seconds tick by like hydrogen bombs
falling on my dime-store watch
booming inside my head
with screams and allegations.
Finally, the time had come
to spy the dreaded dual windows
which held a pair of faint blue lines declaring
"Not Pregnant"
