I saw this movie about 2 weeks ago. I saw the commercials for the movie and I thought it might be fun to go see a movie that would be sure to offend a lot of people. Also I kinda liked Bill Maher, honestly I've never seen his show, because I don't have the channel it's offered on but I have seen him on late night talk shows and thought he was kind of funny.
But the real reason I saw the movie was because the things he was saying in the commercials were the exact things I've been thinking most of my life. I think most.... no all religion is absurd and anyone who believes it has either been brain-washed since birth or is a bona fide retard. Wow! that felt so good to type, I love this internet anonymity , mabye I'll be a half-way decent uberer (because the key is to say things that offend as many people as possible, but also be articulate about it).
So anyway after seeing the first half of the movie I was left disappointed, I mean there was a couple laughable parts but the rest bored me. but I wasn't in similar company. A lot of the people in the theater were really laughing so hard that I thought they had been practicing Cantheism before the show, but I think most of them wern't laughing but trying to speak to the rest of us in the theater. I think they were either trying to say "Oh I get that and even though it's not funny i'll still laugh because the joke was a tiny bit complex and I would like to let the rest of you know that I have an IQ high enough to understand it" or they were trying to say "that was a good point and if I laugh the rest of you will know that I agree with it".
The second half of the movie made me hate Bill Maher and his pot smoking ass. If you didn't see it I'll fill you in on what he did. He first said that the apocalypse or "end times" were a self fufilling prophecy, he actually said this in the opening lines but I was to stupid to pick up on it or I thought to highly of him to think that he would say something that stupid. The reason this comment is as stupid as picking a vice-president based on gender (come on let's face it) is because... just because you believe the world is going to end doesn't mean it actaully will. And anyone informed enough to know who has the power to blow up the world, should know that they have to many restrictions to actually do it, espeically for a reason as silly as religion. He also said that all athiests/agnostics should unite to fight the believers. I don't really know were to start on this statement. First, adding another group to add tension to the area of religion seems like something that only someone who wanted the world to blow up would want. Second, the last thing we want is the people who don't care about religion is to all of a sudden turn into people who actually do care about the archaic tradition that is religon. Third, all it would accomplish would be "fufill the prophecy" that non-believers are only here to corrupt the minds of the believers. fourth and finally, I think there is a good possible that religion does a tiny bit more good than harm because it does convince otherwise mindless people to do acts that are beneficial to society. Now you can go and give me a -2 for grammar/spelling/structure and content which would piss me off, becuase you should be rating me on a numerical representation of your current mood. wait don't rate me based on your mood, I know that all of you hate your lives and I don't want to recieve a bad rating because I actually have been defining myself based on the ratings ive gotten on my past two posts

I saw this movie too and was somewhat disappointed. There could have been more substance rather than Maher traveling around and insulting people.
And while most fundies (all religion) are laughable, Maher could have done more to deconstruct religious beliefs. Instead he used the film to smirk and roll his eyes.
