I know it's been a while so I'll skip the boring small talk one makes with someone or some place they haven't been in a while.
I unfortunately still work fast food, as i'm still in college. Though the place I'm at now is much better than my last job, at least managerial wise. They are managers you can actually count on to get in the "trenches" with you if need be, but anyways that's all just background noise. In the past I've complained on occasion about how annoying customers can be, or just how plain stupid some tend to be. Which brings me to my question ultimately, a few weeks ago this woman was booking a birthday party at my job and was being a typical belligerent customer. Making all kinds of demands, asking for more of a discount because she's bringing all these people etc etc.. There was one point the woman being so obviously annoyed with it all she remarked
"I don't know why were even coming here to be honest, I don't even like the pizza and neither does most of my family but were still coming."
Now, I don't understand why someone would say this? I don't understand the logic it implies if any at all. My question is, was that one of her last desperate efforts to possibly get some of her demands met? I mean she still booked her party and as far as I know showed up. And when she said it everyone was just kind of quiet like nothing happened. I just don't understand if she dislikes the food and so does most of her family, why have the birthday party there then? I mean surely if it's as simple as the kid just wanting to go, the kid could easily be swayed to have a party somewhere else with better food and just as many games etc..
As I said I really don't know, but just thought I'd ask the people of uber out there as you might've been that woman at some point, I just need some clarification that's all.

I live in San Antonio Texas that ranges between lower middle class to upper middle class, The woman was Hispanic and probably in her late thirty's to mid forty's. And it's probably not possible she came from the ghetto to book this party, as the ghetto has it's own peter piper pizza they book their own parties at. And that's a store NO BODY likes to work at (at least from what i've heard from transfers). Though interestingly enough, the peter piper pizza that's down the street from an air force base the customers are always very polite and courteous, be they civilian or military. One manager I knew who said he worked there for a few weeks, actually messed up on this guys pizza and he just took it as is and didn't want it remade or anything and actually thanked my manager for the pizza. If that happened at the store I work at the people would not only demand a new pizza but some chicken wings and tokens for the games.

Asian? Probably just a bargaining tactic.
Black? Probably venting her frustration at not having her demands met.
Mexican? She probably really does hate your pizza.

It isn't uncommon for some people to be abusive towards service industry employees.
First, it provides an opportunity to take out their frustrations on someone who is generally viewed by society at large as part of an underclass, and therefore safe to abuse.
Second, just as the term implies, the service industry relies on patronage to survive. In a competition driven market, the clients of the services wield the strongest influence. The hateful twat you encountered was hoping that once she let you know that your (as in your employer) particular pizza place was not as good as the unnamed "other guy's," you would throw in an additional hefty discount in order to keep her patronage.
Third, she might have been one of those awful parents who truly believe that the universe is centered directly in their little angel's asshole. If that's the case, I pity your establishment because if she does indeed book her party there, you can count on a midget unmannered tyrant and several of his/her little friends, also equally unmannered and tyrantical.
In summation, she was and is, just another twatish customer.

Yeah, I figured as much in that area. I read once (and cited it on a post some time back) that the customer views employees as just a part in an intricate machine and lash out as such if the machine doesn't do what it's asked to, or is unable to for that matter. No I just posted this here to perhaps ask the question to the "Woman" as i'm sure there are some people on ubersite whom have played the part of the woman, at some point or another. I mean because obviously, if I asked that woman then and there such a question they'd probably fire me and she'd probably get free pizza for life for the shit storm she'd brew.
