I generally bitch and moan about the US, its politics, currency, laws and general approach to the free world.
In fact until 4 years ago I refused to visit based on the fact that it was (and indeed is) populated by 'fat ignorant yanks'.
HOWEVER.
Due to certain circumstances, a few years ago I visited Vegas.
It wasn't all bad. I had a great time, didn't feel in any danger and found the Americans to be quite a polite and friendly race.
With this in mind and realising that Vegas in pretty much unique in the world, I promised myself I'd visit the states again and see if other parts were just as welcoming.
The following year I flew into New York (not literally of course, you lot get WELL excited about that) and I absolutely FUCKING LOVED the place. I'd visit again tomorrow if I didn't have so much else going on. The vibe of the place was addictive and just being in such a city made me feel alive, like I could feel the blood pumping through my veins in tune to the city. It was unreal.
At this point America had a pretty good return rate. Two visits and two totally different yet endearing experiences.
The following year I went to Memphis, trying to experience yet another facet of the country.
It didn't disappoint, the musical heritage of the place is of course unimaginable, if you like music... REAL music, bluesy, raw, music played by some of the most talented motherfuckers you are likely to see... then you can't complain.
In summary, I fucking love the states.
Ad it turns out that the missus does too. And she wants to move there.
So here is what I'm after, and I know all about google.com but I've posted this here because as with anything you search for on the internet it's difficult to sort the wheat from the chaff.
I pretty much have the option to move to any of the following places.
North Carolina
Collegeville
King of Prussia
Upper Merrion
Philadelphia (not so keen)
Pittsburgh (again, not so keen)
Marietta
Morrisville
And when I say 'option to' I mean I have work opportunities in these areas.
What I'd like to know if which ones are good, bad or indifferent?
Can someone links estate agents/realty agents in the above areas? where is best to look to live within these area's? Where is safe? Where is it fucking dangerous? What area's has good schools?
And more importantly, will they take in some twat from the UK?

These places are close enough to philly that anyone with a car will come out to rob your ass...
Philly is a shithole...pitt is quite dirty from what I understand... As for the south we done got us a more better edumacation system up north.
Traffic sucks in King of Prussia though due to the biggest fucking mall on the east coast. I live about 20 minutes north of there where the property taxes are at least a third of the cost... the rent too.

Caulaincourt likes to give me shit when I rightfully complain about foreign tourists or workers COMING HERE and expecting us to cater to their language needs, and he ignores it when I point out that I may not be bilingual but when travelling I always give my best effort to speak at least a little of the language, and I find the effort pays off. My Atrocity-French, for example, makes visits to Paris a lot easier. And trust me, if you haven't been there, Paris kicks ass (yes, I may hate Quebec, but if I HAD to live somewhere besides the USA I would choose between Scotland and France).
Having said that, this excerpt from the above link will make him choke like that time he 'tasted' cock---

I've actually lived in or around quite a few of those places. I wouldn't want to live in Philadelphia again, but the towns around it you listed are nice places to live and plenty close enough to visit Philly, NYC, and the few places in Jersey worth going to. Be prepared to deal with nuclear fall out, as most of eastern PA is very close to potential nuke targets, and probably would be considered a target itself considering its natural resources, industry and military facilities. This is advice coming from a guy going through a "the apocalypse is nigh" typa phase however.

myshit- you must have quite a bit of money if you think Princeton is affordable. i just looked real quick and saw a quaint little 2 bedroom cottage for $350K USD. if you want a house in Princeton that isn't embarrassing to entertain guests in, you'll have to spend at least half a million. most of the east coast is like that; west coast too. a friend of mine had to spend half a million on a 2 bedroom house near Boston.
i'm looking for houses right now and my absolute minimum requirement is 4 bedrooms and around 3,000 square feet. i couldn't possibly live in an area where a house like that goes for close to a million dollars. can't afford it. i'm not Shlongy or Apollo.

This is of course assuming that you guys work out mortgage lending rates etc at the same rate as the UK, or at least in a very similar fashion.
The company I work for has site across the globe and I know that my UK salary would be honoured in the US.
Hence that level of mortgage would not be an issue. And I don't consider myself a wealthy man, but then that is what living in the UK does to a person.

£6.65 a GALLON of diesel fuel
£5.50 for a packet of 20 fags
£10K for an AVERAGE car (Ford Fiesta, Vauxhall Astra)
£20K for a half decent one (Honda, Citroen, Large Ford or Vauxhall)
£30K for a decent Audi, Beemer, Volvo or Merc
So half a million US would buy me a 3/4 bed with around 2800/3200 sq/ft I believe.

Okay, seriously, anyone who thinks North American has nothing to like fits one of two descriptions:
1: hates life and has nothing to live for because nothing makes them happy
2: went on some shitty touristy trip to NA and didn't see anything but the back of a bunch of equally stupid tourists' heads and pointless looking over sized sculptures like the Washington Monument
So congratulations on not knowing how to travel. I'm in California right now, and just spent the last week driving across the coast, and making a point to go places where tourists aren't. In doing so, I have seen such incredibly beautiful things, that if you are unable to appreciate them, you probably don't deserve to live anywhere more interesting than a sprawling suburban wasteland of manicured lawns and cookie cutter families.
And that's just California. Don't even get me started about how many amazing and wonderful places there are in the rest of the country.

because, you fucking felcher, WE DON'T CARE if you don't like our country. pretentious foreigners from all lands love to tell us how fucked up we are and frankly it's just a bit ridiculous. most Americans have high regard for other countries and want to travel. unfortunately, most of us don't have passports because we don't live in close proximity to a lot of other countries like Europeans do. it's only until this year things changed to where we need a passport to go to Mexico and Canada. i have a passport and i go see other countries. but i have the money to do so. also, the US has a lot to offer as far as diversity goes. we have awesome beaches, we have mountains, we have flatlands, we have deserts, we have some amazing natural wonders like the Grand Canyon, we have awesome cities to see, etc, etc.
the more foreigners stereotype us, the more ridiculous it's going to get. we're not all NASCAR loving, xenophobic rednecks. and we don't need to ask "what put you off about us?" because we don't care. we don't NEED perspective on our country. we LOVE our country and if you don't like it, feel free NOT to visit it. but if you do want to visit, we'll be glad to show you around and buy you a round or two and show you how to have a good time in our country.
you know, the more time i spend around people from the UK and Australia, the more i realize that our biggest difference is our accents.

I grew up in Marietta, Georgia. Not sure if that's the one you're talking about. There are several Mariettas in the States I think.
Anyway, I would only recommend moving there if you have kids or are planning to have kids. Otherwise, go to an urban area. North Carolina is nice, particularly Charlotte and Raleigh. Their economies are in OK shape but they still have the feel of smaller towns.

Try Lillian, Texas. The schools there are outstanding. It is culturally one of the highlights of the entire state. They're also very fond of the British there, as I recall. People are tolerant of outsiders and always show respect and curiosity, courtesy and helpfulness to any and everyone not from there. They'll love you there, I promise.

I don't recommend Pittsburgh but if you do choose there, Wexford (north of Pittsburgh) is a really nice area, affordable and good schools.
I recommend west coast if you can.
Then again, if you can get your hands on the Helping Friendly Book and become King of Prussia, the Lizards will let you do pretty much anything you want.

asheville, north carolina. western NC not too far from TN. Nice place for kids, plenty of private schools. Arden is a nice neighbourhood, as well as North Asheville. Places near the Grove Park Inn are nice. Send your kid to Asheville Country Day or St. Genevieve's, and the schools that lead to them. For public schools, Asheville High and T.C. Roberson are all right. Steer well clear of Owen High and Reynold's.
For the most part is an easy going normal town, has a lot of art and music and some hippies. Was central to the arts scene in the sixties with "black mountain college" and has a rich folk art history as well. Blue Ridge Parkway runs through, the most beautiful mountain range and Sunday drive ever. Great for picnics and impromptu stop-offs for playing in the creek and small waterfalls.
Has lots of churches but also has a strong new age/pagan vibe happening so it balances out. Not as "south" as some southern cities. Lovely weather. Snows sometimes in winter. Rains warm sometimes in summer. Happy times.

I grew up in Marietta, Georgia. Not sure if that's the one you're talking about. There are several Mariettas in the States I think.
Anyway, I would only recommend moving there if you have kids or are planning to have kids. Otherwise, go to an urban area. North Carolina is nice, particularly Charlotte and Raleigh. Their economies are in OK shape but they still have the feel of smaller towns.

I work in King of Prussia, it's in Upper Merion Township. Much of it is as (over)developed as parts of Philly- the country's second largest mall is here, several major highways, tons of business and highrises.
Pros- Valley Forge, relatively quick access to Philly, tons of shopping and restuarants, if that's your thing.
What is your profession? If it is anything office related, pharmaceutical, food, or retail, KOP has lots of opportunities.
Cons: The traffic here SUCKS. It's a short drive to the city if it's nowhere near rush hour, but that can last 3 hours here.
I've seen some beautiful houses in KOP, but to be honest, it's mostly business for me. But there are lots of desirable surrounding areas, as well.

I have personally visited the united states myself and found absolutely nothing there to like.
