***DISCLAIMER- IF YOU AREN'T A FAN OF GUITARS LEAVE NOW OR YOU WILL BE BORED***
i am mad as hell. i am pissed off more than this guy- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d7YaJ5bGL-o
i used to own several guitars. now i only have one- a Les Paul Standard that has been a great guitar. but now it's time to move on. i need more than one guitar because i decided to get the old crew together this summer and play some shows. you can't play shows with only one guitar. what if you want to play a song with a different tuning? i suppose you could buy a Gibson Robot like a friend of mine, but i think they come in a really ugly finish, despite the fact that they are really cool guitars.
anyway, i decided to finally buy a guitar i've been wanting for years. i really don't know why i didn't buy this sooner. i had kind of forgotten about my dream of owning one. the Parker Nitefly M-
http://www.parkerguitars.com/code/models/models_nitefly_m_intro.asp
check out the Sound Diagram. it's awesome.
anyway, while they were setting the guitar up before shipping it to me, they found an intonation problem. there was a crack! this is what i get for buying one after Parker was bought by Washburn, one of the shittiest guitar makers ever. so now i'm searching for a "pre-Washburn" Parker. this is the model i'm looking for- http://fsquillante.free.fr/Photos/parker%20fly%20deluxe.jpg. beautiful, isn't it? a real work of art. it is truly my dream guitar. the Nitefly M i just purchased is my second favorite.
so yeah, now i won't get my Nitefly until i get back from Iraq in a couple months. that's much too long to wait for such a breathtaking instrument.
so yeah, you could say i'm a little angry. this would never have happened before Washburn took over.
anyway, i just wanted to talk guitar with the fellow guitarists here. what is your dream guitar and do you currently own it? if not, do you think you ever will?

Yesterday morning my hungover sleep was disturbed by the headstock of my acoustic smashing into my head.
That'll teach me to badly hang my guitar on the wall above my bed. I spent the whole day bleeding and concussed.

OH SON OF A MOTHERFUCKING BITCH
MY PARKER IS GOING TO ARRIVE THE DAY I LEAVE FOR FUCKING IRAQ
WHAT A TOTAL FUCKING RIP
that's ok. i'm not worthy of playing such an instrument until i get better at sweep arpeggios anyway. i'm going to have to practice them on a travel guitar while i'm in Iraq.

you got it, Caul. i'll post pictures and talk about what's going on with me when i'm there as much as possible.
if i ever make the book a reality, i'm pretty sure you'd find it an interesting read, judging by what i know about you from ubersite. i'll let everyone know if i actually find the time to start on it.

cool.
i really like reading anything or images#videos about wars. not because i'm all 'OH YEAH! KILL SUM TEWERISTS BOYZ!'
i just always found it fascinating since i'm a kid. not the political opinions but the simple description of the person on the ground.
for instance, i watched this little CANAL2 french documentary and really liked it http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=6cb_1206778997

i played my Les Paul for a couple hours today and i realized that i really do love that way it looks, feels, sounds, and how it sustains for days. i really never gave a lot of thought to the quality that went into making it, especially the finish i have, which i have never seen before on any other LPs. i like a lot of other guitars, but none other than the Parker and the Les Paul have stayed in my top three favorite guitars all along.
here's my favorite picture of a Les Paul ever- http://www.poster.net/marley-bob/marley-bob-redemption-song-5000322.jpg

+2 for the parker, gorgeous guitars...
To be honest, I hate Gibsons. They play like crap right out of the box, fair do's after a set up they're nice, but you'd expect a gibson to glow right out of the box! I used to work in a guitar shop, and it was always a dissapointment when Gibsons arrived.
I've got an old style Ibanez Jetking, traded in a new RG "rock" model for my tasty "pawnshop-project" plays like a teenage schoolgirl. Lovely.

a friend of mine turned me on to this guitar maker. have never seen one in person but they look cool and i've heard they're quality instruments/works of art.
from a collector's stand point i might buy one just because they're unique and are somewhat popular...but i'm not a collector.
http://www.zemaitis.net/zemaitis-players.htm
i mainly play a guild acoustic and a homemade electric that has a tele neck and pickups i wound myself when i was a little kid. that guitar looks like frankenstein but plays and sounds surprisingly well.
there are holes all the way through the neck where i bolted it onto the body and for years the pickup switch was one i stole from my sister's hair dryer but i did have to replace it with a roach clip when it finally shorted out.
not sure what to make of the novax guitars but they're interesting too:

Oathy- i like Les Pauls, but not as much as the hardcore LP fans. i don't have a Gibson because i don't understand why most of the LPs are priced so high. i have an Epiphone LP Standard that i payed $500 for and it's a beautiful guitar and it sounds amazing. as far as i can tell, the difference between the Eps and the Gibsons are the Gibsons have more attention to detail payed to them, have better pickups in them, and different hardware, which is usually better.
i do agree about them being heavy. my shoulder will get a little sore if i play for an hour or two. that's why i bought the Parker. i think LPs are good looking guitars and depending on the finish and hardware, can be gorgeous. some of them are just ugly though.
anyway, i love the way mine plays and it sounds beautiful and the finish is gorgeous. i really don't think i would have been any happier with a Gibson that i payed $1,000 - $2,000 more for.
so yeah, they are good guitars but they aren't the guitar to end all other guitars like some people think. their history and popularity is definitely amazing, no doubt about that.

I own a Les Paul studio light with a clear blue finish on the top and a purple back...I've owned numerous guitars throughout the years but have always maintained the Les Paul as my main axe. I always like the way the Nitefly plays and love that it has stereo outputs but I dunno...something about it just feels junky. The neck feels like plastic. It's a nice axe though, I hope you enjoy it.
I picked up a Fender Cyber twin a month or so ago and I absolutely love it. My dad has a Twin Reverb reissue and while it's great if you want that Fender sound I was never crazy about their amps, especially the lack of diversity. The Cyber twin however is a whole different story...the clean tones sound just as a Fender should but it's balls out when you need some crunch...and at 130 watts for a combo amp it's plenty loud for gigging. Good stuff.

I have a late 70's Gibson L6S in black (They usually come in gay).
Very rare, it has a 6 pick up selector switch because the guy that made it wanted a Gibson that could sound like a Les Paul or a Strat. Gibson weren't very happy because they didn't want to sound like Fender. They all fell out and it was the last guitar he made for them before buggering off to work for Fender.
Its neck is less wide than a Les Paul which makes it very easy to play. It also has more frets than a Les Paul which is more to play with. The thing wouldn't go out of tune if you threw it at a wall (or break for that matter), and unlike most of its cousins it's the lightest solid body I have ever picked up.
It sounds fucking ace on which ever of the 6 settings you use. I will never play another guitar (other than my Takamine acoustic).
It has been stolen and given back to me because the bloke in the pub that nicked it heard how upset I was! It was handed down to me from my Dad who played it in his band. It has survived a fire without a mark on it. This guitar means everything to me, god clearly doesn't want us to be seperated :)
The one in the link isn;t mine but it's identical...

I'm quite partial to my custom Fender 5-string bass guitar, as far as basses go. Electric/acoustic? Not quite so picky, but I am thoroughly enjoying my new ESP Ltd EC-1000. Looks and plays like a Les Paul but a hell of a lot lighter body.

I quit smoking cigarettes in 1987 because I realized I was spending $800 a year on the habit - enough to buy a Les Paul. Every Year. I had a couple guitars at the time. I now have more guitars than I've ever owned at once (>20), and my faves are a 1969 Gibson ES335 and a 1979 Strat Hardtail. I have several Les Paul clones, the most awesome sounding being 'Azules' here http://www.ubersite.com/m/1108231983 and the most awesome looking being an Electra Omega in tiger maple sunburst. My ultimate guitar is still a Les Paul, but since I am discerning enough to not just go buy one, I want a model that was/is groundbreaking. I want an original Les Paul that didn't have humbuckers. Doesn't have to be a Gold Top, but 1958-1964 is the timeframe I'm after. don't own it yet, but I will.

I own my dream guitar, it's a Jackson USA select SL2H, seymour duncan hums, original floyd rose and a blue-bengal paintjob. Thank god for Ebay, or i could never afford one.
Good luck finding the parker, from what i've heard they're amazing guitars.
====================================================================
nice Jackson. i have a friend who really loves Jacksons and i've always like them too. how are those SD humbuckers treating you? you can get custom Seymour Duncans in the Parker i bought, but the one i ordered has the custom-wound Dimarzios. i don't know enough about either of them to be able to choose between the two brands. i'm interested in trying a Parker that has the SDs to see if i can tell a difference.
-----------------------------------
I like the seymour duncans a lot, i've got a JB in the bridge and a '59 in the neck which are a versatile set and can do pretty much anything. That said, I haven't really investigated Dimarzios, and from what i can tell they're also high quality, but i think it'd be worth considering the seymour duncans as an option too.

It was strung with fishing wire when he got it.. it's strung why nylon now.
I just started taking lessons... learning cords and what not right now, so I really can't tell you what I want. The same guy who gave me the guitar though had this blue and white Gibson and he could make that fucker wail. It's small neck felt good in my hands (I have paws... kind of stubby fingers too) so I'm interested in that, but again - way to early.
Personally I like rock, alternative, and blues. I live in Chicago and city law states we all have to like the blues. It's not that bad of a law really. The blue aint nothing but a good man feeling down. Add in a cold beer and I'm pretty content for the night.

It was given to me by a friend of mine several years ago. He bought it while in Mexico because he wanted a guitar to play. It was strung with fishing wire. He brought it back and it sat in a corner because he had about a dozen other guitars. He gave me the POS guitar because it was good enough to learn on. The only condition is that I A) had to learn to play and B) had to pass it on to someone else under the same condition when I upgraded.
So, while it's a POS, it has a cool history... or at least I think so. I look forward to upgrading and passing it on.

Good luck finding the parker, from what i've heard they're amazing guitars.

nice Jackson. i have a friend who really loves Jacksons and i've always like them too. how are those SD humbuckers treating you? you can get custom Seymour Duncans in the Parker i bought, but the one i ordered has the custom-wound Dimarzios. i don't know enough about either of them to be able to choose between the two brands. i'm interested in trying a Parker that has the SDs to see if i can tell a difference.

As a Takamine owner, I have to agree that they are really nothing special at all. I'm not even a big stickler for acoustics. Some of my favorite acoustic guitars that I've played have been half as cheap as my already cheap Takamine.
If you play rock and roll and you pay $10,000 for any instrument then you're probably wasting money. Honestly, if I was recording an album today I would much rather spend all that money on buying a whole bunch of cheaper guitars and amps. Rock and roll shouldn't really be about expensive instruments and technical prowess.
One of the coolest guitar tones that I've ever heard is what Keith Richards managed to produce (way back in 1968) by recording a cheap acoustic into a hand-held cassette recorder with no limit. You can hear it on "Street Fighting Man" and "Jumpin' Jack Flash". Charlie Watts is playing a toy drum kit. It's got to be the cheapest and most lo-fi way to record something and it's just amazing.

hahahaha. fair enough. you know, you can find a lesser Nitefly than the one i bought for around $1,000 and it will crunch even better and will still be able to play an awesome clean sound if you ever wanted to. did i mention the 6-element Fishman piezo system it has? not to mention that fucking SWEET custom tremolo system and the 3-way PU select with push/pull coil tap for those custom wound DiMarzios. oh, and it's got Sperzel locking tuners. and stereo output with the ability to combine the mags and the piezo. and it's 6 pounds. and the neck is reinforced with a carbon-glass-epoxy. fuck, i could keep going, but you get the point. Parker makes some awesome shit...

i checked it out and it's pretty nice. nice wood and i liked the tuners and electronics. i had a Takamine acoustic i paid about $400 for when i first started and the action was so terrible on it that i gave it away. i felt too bad asking someone for money for that piece of garbage.
as far as the difference between a $1,000 Takamine and a $10,000 Martin, the differences are vast. you most certainly can tell the difference by listening to them both and i will guarantee you that the Martin feels a lot better to play. i've been playing for a while so i really notice the subtle nuances about different guitars and can appreciate them.

Honestly, I never understood spending more than $1,000 or so on an acoustic guitar. Electric...that's a different story.
But I know you can get some Martins for like 10 grand and that is just fucking ridiculous to me. I challenge anyone to be able to discern the sounds made by a $1,000 takamine and a $10,000 Martin.
Anyway, to answer your question...a favorite model Takamine for me would be the TAN76 Supernatural. Do a search on it.

It's also worth mentioning that the music I play is much, much, much harder and thrash-ier than what others might play. I'm playing music akin to Megadeth, Dream Theater and Meshuggah.
Acoustically, the music I play is similar to Leo Kottke, Keller Williams and Clapton.

IMO the absolute best acoustic guitars are the higher end Takamines. Martins are nice but they haven't really changed the way they make their pieces in decades.
That may be fine if you like your sound to be the same as could be produced 50 years ago, but Takamine, I have found, is much more progressive and willing to change material/design/geometry in order to create a better, sharper, fresher sound.

Martins are by far my favorite acoustics. i got rid of my acoustics and i'll probably use the piezo system in the Parker for a while until i start to miss the grungy sounds some acoustics have. i'm going to look for a Clapton Signature Martin acoustic one of these days and actually buy it.
right now i am playing through my Digitech GNX4 going through my computer speakers. the subwoofer really adds a lot to the tone. i haven't had a need for an amp, but now i need one if i want to start playing shows again. i've got a Marshall MG50DFX laying around that i don't even use. i don't really like it that much. the next amp i want to buy is either the Krankenstein (which is bigtime overkill for me) or the Peavey JSX212.

I have a Telecaster with a Burstbucker Pro in the neck, and I play that guitar every day. I also have an almost brand-new white '61 reissue SG which I almost never play. I'm gonna sell it if anyone is interested. It's in great shape and it's a great guitar but I really regret buying it because the Tele is the only solid-body that I really need. I'm afraid to touch the SG because I don't want to beat the shit out of it and devalue it.
I wouldn't say I have a dream guitar. I like a lot of different kinds. I really want a semi-hollowbody. I had one years ago and I really miss it. I also need a new acoustic. I have a Takamine that was only $300 but I don't like it. I think I would have more fun playing acoustic if I had a better one.

I used to think that the Ibanez Iceman was the ultimate shredding machine until I actually played one and realized it's not half as badass as when White Zombie played it.
I currently play a B.C. Rich Warlock (platinum) which owns but it's a string-through model and doesn't have a trem system. :(
Right now if I had my pick and money wasn't an option I'd look at getting something from PRS.

PRS makes really, really nice guitars. Pre-1996 Custom 22/24's are the shit and sound epic.
An LTD with EMG's sounds heavy as shit, too. My friend has the actual one used by Mike Martin (one of the best rhythm guitarists out there; guy with short hair) in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vEEJiYVXuh0
Mesa Boogie amps are pretty sweet. Marshall amps are also pretty nice.
For acoustic, I am a fan of Martin. My same friend has a 1980-something HD-35 in mint condition. Not even any scratches on the pick guard! It sounds awesome.

As for the "guy from Boston" I dont have any sound at work but he looks like a retard. Probably your typical "I'm from Revere/Franklin/Lynn/Hull/Easton/New Hampshire but I have a "Boston" accent so I tell people I'm from Southie" asshole. I fucking hate nearly all people. Get this. There is no such thing as a Boston accent. I know people who are born and raised in this fair city who have no accent at all. I know people who grew up an hour south of the city and have an accent as thick as the fat in Michael Moore's gut. I dont understand how its called a Boston accent. I really fucking hate when kids from New Hampshire claim they live in Boston. I really, really hate people who fake the "Boston" accent in an attempt to sound cool like they're from the city when they're lace curtain mother fuckers who grew up in the suburbs 80 north. I really fucking hate "Ja'Dude!" Boston sports fans who never shut the fuck up, ever, and have no idea what they are talking about. I really fucking hate nearly everyone who lives in my city. Fuck.

Maybe im just a product of the grunge generation but I am partial to the standard Stratocaster. I picked up my American made about 10 years ago and its been a constant companion. I love it. No bells and whistles, simple flaked maroon finish, and wonderful playability.
but thats just me. I find the wider neck on Gibsons and Martins to be a bit of a hinderance because I have small hands. Im sure I could get used to it but the slimmer neck on a Fender is just right for me!
Damn I cant wait to get home and play now.

What kind of amp are you using?
I'm a drummer, but our guitar player talks about amps and guitars constantly. He's a real gear-head. He uses a PRS currently. He also has a vintage Regal from the 50's that his uncle gave him. And he has a nice custom built Carvin.
He currently uses the Fender Deluxe Twin Reverb, but just purchased a two twelve Dr. Z which is pretty beast. Big sound when his overdrives are on. But it has perfect clarity as well.

I would really, really like a Nitefly. I've only seen one here in Saskatoon and it played amazingly well; wasn't that expensive either. I ended up buying an Ibanez S320, which is one of the guitars I've been after for a while. Nice tone, very lightweight and set up perfectly for the sort of music I'm into.
Must start amp shopping now though, as well. Not sure what to look into quite yet though; I've got eight guitars around this house now and only two amps. A practice amp and a big Mesa stack for live shows. Its nice, but try moving that shit in a Sunfire. *shudder*

check this amp out then. it will fit in your car and it's the most amazing amp i have ever heard for that price range. you'd expect the features this amp has for at least a grand more. it sounded like heaven when i played through one with a Les Paul Studio. i know it's a Peavy, but don't let that throw you off. Joe Satriani helped them design it.
