Since there's been an overwhelming influx of CRAP on the front page this week, save for Ubertines and a handful of other good posts, here's my proposal to flip that ratio:
A little contest called "Ubergrams."
ONE round. ONE rule. NO brackets. EVERYBODY wins! (The prize being a hotbed of excellent reading material...hopefully.)
Participate if you wish. Or just be a reader. I really don't care, as long as if you DO participate that you write something...ANYTHING...legible. The only rule is that your post title has to be an anagram of your user name...sensible or nonsensical.
Other than that, write a short story, poem, screenplay, song, whatever your heart desires.
What? You want a PRIZE, you say? O-kay. Best entry by popular vote (and by popular vote I of course mean highest rating) as of next Thursday at 9:00AM CST gets a plethora of +2s from me on their ten lowest rated posts, AND a date with Crystle!

I was taking a shit two days ago, and listening to the radio. I have a radio in the bathroom. That's the only place I can be alone during the daylight hours to think. So I was shitting, and thinking, and listening to the radio. KJZZ. Our local NPR station, which plays jazz in the evenings. I'm not a big jazz fan. I mean, I appreciate it, but I don't go ga-ga over it like I do with, say, ... well...depends on my mood. Could be The Who. Could be Beethoven. Anyway, there was some jazz music playing, as it was evening-time. First thought: Hmmm, that's okay. Next: That's pretty good. Then: That's really fucking good, and it's just getting better. Later: Holy fucking hell, this is great. Finally: This is the greatest fucking piece of music I've ever heard in my life.
This doesn't happen very often. I've heard so much music over my life that I fear I've reached a point where very little thrills me anymore. I can dig it, but it's not likely to get the blood flowing like it used to.
This was different. At the end, I learned it was Oscar Peterson playing live. The song was "The Bach Bach Suite: Allegro." I bought a cd with the song on it on Amazon immediately, and it should be here in a couple days.
I don't know why I'm telling you this, other than you like jazz and I've had some whiskey.
