First Blood was one of the best movies ever made.

The first Rocky movie was almost as awesome.

Anyone who says differently is wrong.

for my money, tears of the sun is the best war movie of the past decade. just throwing that out there.

---

then take it back. 'Black Hawk Down' FTW.

---

also a good nomination, but im partial to sneaking around and killing people without them ever knowing you were there.

Funny post but Rambo IV is still the best movie I've seen in a while.

i have neglected to have ever seen a rambo movie. my friend burned them all on dvd for me and i promptly misplaced them. i was going to take a girl on a date to see this one because, you know, im a gentleman and shit, but we broke up. the disruptive forces in my life have kept me from ever watching one of these.

Ha ha, excellent summary!

I liked Rambo 4, though. It was realistic enough not to make me roll my eyes, but filled with enough action to keep me entertained. Very decent.

That is why the sequels to action movies always suck (the except is Die Hard 2) - it's great when the general plot is original, but action movie screenwriters usually aren't the brightest apples in the basket, so they just recycle stuff over... and over... and over... ad nauseum. The only half-exception is James Bond, but that's only because James Bond has a bigger budget.

The Mad Max movies just got better and better...

You make it sound as if there's something wrong with a movie full of killing people, like Rambo III. The only way to make such a movie better would be to kill even more people in it. Hence the newest Rambo.

Don't knock Stallone. Just don't go there. That badass motherfucker single-handedly won the Cold War. The COLD FUCKING WAR. He won it. He blew up Soviet Tanks, killed VC and knocked out the best steroid-fuelled boxer they could find.

Pffft, whatever man. Next you'll say that Hollywood is shallow and image-based, or that movies are churned out by corporate committees who use words like 'target demographic', 'synergy' and 'product placement'. We all know that Hollywood is a magical dreamland filled with licorice and jujubes, and that movies are really made by (broke but) plucky English Majors who have a dream.

It's funny. I'm of the last generation that was taught to be terrified of the Soviets. They were the "Great Enemy" when I was a kid.

Rambo was every teen-age boy's hero at the time.

BLOW DEM ROOSKIES AWAY JOHN!

I actually liked Rambo 4.

I was four 32 oz beers deep and brought a flask to the movie, and it delivered exactly what I wanted. Insane violence and clear good/bad guys.
--------------
I loved how they felt that the lead bad-guy ethnic wasn't quite evil enough so they had to make him a paedo. Just classic writing there.

---------------------

if i was writing it I would have made him a paedo/vampire/mummy just to make sure everybody knew he was bad.

Laughs.

Homer: Look at that. I'm the first non-Brazilian person to travel
backwards through time.

Mr. Peabody:
Correction, Homer, you're the second.

Sherman:
That's right, Mr. Peabody!

Mr. Peabody:
Quiet, you.
