It was one of those days when we had a lot to do, but didn't want to deal so we loaded up the dogs and headed for the mountains.
Then we came home and watched Close Encounters. Thankfully we still have it on the DVR because I fell asleep while they were climbing Devils Tower. DAMNIT
Now I'm making guacamole for the Super Bowl festivities. Sam won't eat it because it's "green" so I have to make it when people are coming over.
GUACAMOLE
1 medium Hass avocado, peeled & pitted (do I need to say pitted because surely no one is going to be dumb enough to think that huge ass pit belongs in the dip)
2 Tbsp red onion, chopped (unless you want to bite into a big whole onion)
2 Tbsp cilantro
1 Tbsp lime juice (it calls for fresh lime juice but I use one of the plastic lime looking things)
¼ Tsp Tabasco Sauce®
¼ Tsp salt
Instructions: throw all of this into a bowl and mush it together until it looks like guacamole. Then stick it in the fridge until people show up. Word on the streets is that if you leave the pit in the bowl until you get ready to serve it, the guacamole will not turn brown. I tend to think that not serving it weeks after you make it will do the same thing.

guacamole is delicious.
I too went for a hike yesterday with some good company. I hiked back through this little glen that has these crazy bridges running through it to keep people off the flaura/fauna as some of it is unique to just this one tiny little eco system. the trai ends at this cute little waterfall but since everything is covered in white death we got to see gigantic bits of ice and stuff. very nice afternoon walk.

Awesome dogs! I took mine down to the Falls down here yesterday as well, but it was much sunnier and warm.
Are those malamutes or huskies? I have a huskie/coyote mutt with one blue eye, most loyal dog I've ever had, though she pulls on the leash too much.

This is on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The kids are Huskies. They're going to be 12 in about a week and really starting to slow down. Its sad but they had a good time yesterday.

Big dogs don't live quite as long as the little wannabes. A puppy will help when your older dogs are no longer around.
Our one-year old Border Collie broke through the fence last night and decided to take a tour of the neighborhood. Luckily, he stayed away from the busy, four-lane street in front of the house. We tracked him to one street over by his paw prints in the snow, but they disappeared on a sidewalk. We were walking the streets calling his name when a guy in a car pulled over and asked if we were looking for a dog. We said yes, told him the dog's name, and he said the dog was at his house. I tried to give him a reward, but he refused. Thank God for decent people.

If I remember my biochemistry correctly (doubtful), then the pit acts to inhibit the action of oxidase enzyme - otherwise known as the thing that makes everything brown in apples, bananas, and guacamole.
Fun fact: did you know that horseradish creates the bite/burn at the back of your throat because when it is mixed with your saliva the anthocyanates dissolve to form very low dose cyanide gas which tries to exit your body through your nasal passage?
Fun fact 2: your eyes burn when cutting an onion because the 'juice' of the individual layers releases sulfide gases which, when mixed with your eye fluids, creates low concentration sulfuric acid.
