If you are an American who is disgusted with this nation and everything it stands for, you can renounce citizenship and go live where these dudes are setting up shop. You don't have to be native, you just gotta show up.
Think of it - no US taxes, no IRS, none of that. Just living off the land and not having big brother gouging every fucking dollar you make and scrutinizing everything you do.

I do find it very interesting but I don't see how they can hope to achieve it and actually stay solvent. I think a big part of it is the assumption that they keep places like cheyene, rapid city, and other "urban areas" and not everyone leaves so that there is industry and commerce and shit.

in short one of the things I was trying to tell you is that they are already indpendent, at least in theory. Knowing how much government money goes toward taking care of those people I wonder how they think this will benefit them.

They aren't independent. They are still subject to federal laws (I think), and they recieve lots of money from the US.
Let them declare independence and have th US build a fence making them apply for VIsa's and start taxing all the energy/fuel/food etc that they bring in, how long do you think a tribe of drunkards who can't adapt will last?
Reservations as a store house for culture are great, but they have turned into refuge for bums who want nothing but the govt to pay for their booze.

by the way the reservations and subsequently the only land that the sioux currently have claim to is the dark boxes on that map. They want all that other land back as i mentioned before but currently have no claim to it aside from the fact that it was theirs before whitey stole it.

this is really not new news, this started in 1974, and canada can't annex them. they are already their own nations. the other thing that's not new news is that they want the black hills returned to them. they want whitey to move out of the black hills as it is sacred land that they were forced to leave for the most part. there's a reason the reservations are where they are. it's because the govt selected the worst possible land to give them when they needed a place to put the dirty red people.

I've been on the reservations, that's some tough land. Nothing and more nothing and more nothing for miles and miles. On top of all that nothing is even more nothing, the people who actually live on the reservations are often living some of the poorest lives in the most squalid of environments. I've seen multiple families living in one small little house where there is no electricity or heat.
They are already soveirgn (I can't spell) nations and if they stay on the reservation they can avoid participating in life as an american citizen. The tribes do offer some protection, criminals who belong to the tribes will sometimes run to the res and then in order for them to be prosecuted they have to be extradited. in more serious crimes the tribes will usually cooperate but they don't have to.
