Now I haven't posted anything for quite some time. But Presidential politics have started early this go round, I don't know if that is due to a desire to show GWB the door, but I suspect that is the case. So I thought an incomplete retrospective might be in order. Seriously, no matter which party you identify with this administration record is just terrible.

On a side note how low do you think the Presidents approval ratings will go? My moneys on low twenties.

1. Walter Reed outpatient treatment

2. Fired 8 US attorneys for trumped up reasons; political interference

3. Scooter Libby/Plamegate

4. Iraq: lack of preparation for occupation, looting, including the National Museum, too few
troops, lack of training, lack of equipment, lack of securing loose Iraqi munitions, disbanding the Iraqi army, banning the Baathists, the CPA, Paul Bremer, losing tons of money literally, lack of international inclusion in reconstruction and security, weak Constitution, formation of sectarian parties, weak government

5. Afghanistan and the resurgent Taliban and opium production

6. Iran and saber rattling

7. North Korea, ditching the 1994 agreement because of dubious uranium program, the plutonium program which led to a fizzled first nuclear test, and something like a return to the 1994 agreement

8. Osama bin Laden, where are you? Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and terrorism

9. Civilian contractors

10. The Military Commissions Act: torture, indefinite detention, the end of habeas corpus, and kangaroo courts

Loki: That quote is definitely not from Lincoln. Some guy made up the quote in an article he wrote for a magazine 3 or 4 years ago. He claims he didn't falsely attribute it to Lincoln, but rather a copy editor mistakenly put quotation marks around it. Anyway, than a Republican candidate repeated the non-quote during his--or possibly her--campaign, and it's been circulating in forwarded e-mails ever since.

I read the article back when this story first broke, and an over-zealous copy editor or not, the guy that wrote the original article was definitely trying to attribute a sentiment to Lincoln that Lincoln himself never expressed.

Oh COME on. The man, while disgustingly incompetent and void of just about any concievablevirtue, is a comedic gold mine and will employ comedians (namely John Stewart) for years to come.

Have you seen this e-mail that is floating around:

**************************
"Congressmen who willfully take actions during wartime
that damages morale and undermine the military, are
saboteurs and should be arrested, exiled or hanged."

President Abraham Lincoln

Send it Forward!
***************************

I'd love to debunk this because quite frankly I don't think Lincoln said it. For one thing congressmen is a plural word so it would be "damage" and not "damages". At least I think it would be and if so I don't think Lincoln (who it should be noted not only started the war of northern aggression but conveniently got himself assassinated before having to clean up his own mess) would have fucked that up.

I also don't think Lincoln (who is should be noted not only started the war of northern aggression but conveniently got himself assassinated before having to clean up his own mess) would have said "arrested, exiled or hanged". He'd at least have put a comma between the exiled and hanged part.

Besides it doesn't sound flowery and puffed up in that four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent type of way.

Keeping in mind that Lincoln not only started the war of northern aggression but conveniently got himself assassinated before having to clean up his own mess.

Do you think that my education has been somewhat jaded by having grown up in the South.

With a capital "S"?

Just wondering.
