I had the pleasure of watching Pete Rose play professional baseball, who is clearly one of the games greatest players. Nobody comes close to playing as hard or with as much heart as Pete did. In the All Star game, a game where everybody kinda takes it easy, he ran into a catcher and destroyed the other guys career just so his team could win.
How come he's not in the Hall of Fame? Because he made a few personal mistakes. It certainly isn't a lack of heart or talent. It wasn't drugs, hoes, slaves, pimpin, homosexuality, beastiality, racisim or perversion. It was gambling.
Barry Bonds was a very good player in the 80's, borderline superstar material. An ESPN reporter mentioned one time that when Barry started in his rookie year he was a size 7 5/8th and now he is a size 8 1/8th. Your head isn't supposed to grow after you are 16 or 17.
When Barry was accused of taking drugs, he said that it was "Milk shakes." Now if this was a normal person maybe I could understand, but a person who's livelyhood and career depend on your physical ability I seriouslly doubt it. Wouldn't anybody notice their head growing? Everybody knows Barry lied.
So why is Barry Bonds still playing? Because Bud Selig is a fucking pussy, that's why! Everybody wants the record broken because it brings money. More interest in baseball = greater attendance & more ticket sales = more consessions = more money.
Did anybody notice that Barry Bonds sat out EVERY ESPN game? Doesn't he know that the writers are the ones who vote him into the hall of fame? He knows he'll get in regardless whether or not he breaks the home run record and Bud Selig said that there will be an "asterisk" near the information. If Bud had any hair on his balls, he'd ban that nigger from every playing again and ban him from the Hall of Fame.
People are shouting for Michael Vick to be suspended from pro football. Why? You can take the nigger out of the ghetto but you can't take the ghetto out of the nigger. Michael Vick has millions of dollars at his disposal, hoes, cars, houses, there is nothing that mofo can't get with a phone call. What does he do? Fight dogs. A crime. Everybody wants him out of football for the crime. Yet Barry also committed a crime, lied in court and everybody knew it and it's OK.
If Barry Bonds is allowed to play and if he gets into the Hall of Fame, then they need to allow Pete Rose in. Pete Rose has more talent, played harder and never gave the media a hard time. Barry enhanced his talent, doesn't have heart because he is a greedy nigger and always gives the media a hard time.

I used to think I loved baseball, but now I realize I love the IDEA of baseball.
Little kids playing in a sandlot have more integrity and fun than MLB. Sad.

Since playing sports at the college level. I'll let you in on a secret. Everyone is on steriods. Every fucking player in every sport. Especially baseball and football. It's fucking common knowledge. Lots of baseball players have been on steroids. Canseco said about 85% were juiced, right? I dont think he can be trusted but that's still a lofty accusation. Why single out Barry Bonds?
I was at the home run derby in Milwaukee a few years ago. Sammy Sosa and Bonds were mashing in batting practice. Bonds hit his picture on the big screen above the hitter's eye in center field. Sosa hit one even farther, but to the left. That ball was about 20 feet from leaving Miller park THROUGH THE OPEN ROOF. They said those balls only traveled about 480 feet, but anybody who was there knows that's about 100 feet short of the truth. 480 foot home runs were clearing the bleachers by just a little bit, and they had nothing on those two shots.
Everybody knows they were both on steroids. Sosa may even have been (read: definitely was) using a corked bat. They were both cheating, but damn, it was fun to watch.
You know Bonds only uses a 32-inch bat? He chokes up an extra inch and can still hit any fastball on the outside part of the plate to any part of the field. He knows the strike zone better than anybody else in baseball, he's an MVP, a gold glover, 400 steals, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. He's the best player since Willie Mays.
And as for the media? I wouldnt like them in my face every day either. Talking to them is a no-win situation for him. If he talks, we tear apart everything he says anyway.
It doesn't matter anyway. He'll only have the record for as long as it takes Alex Rodriguez to get there.

I never understood the "crime" involved in betting on your team, as long as your betting for your team. I just don't get it. But that's for me.
As far as Bonds is concerned, I couldn't really give a fuck one way or the other. I sorta hope he breaks a femur or something before breaking Aaron's record.

Baseball players are only told one thing EVERY year, from their rookie season until they retire:
Do. Not. Bet. On. The. Game.
Pete Rose should never be allowed in the Hall of Fame. Ever. He's one of the finest, hardest-working players to ever play, but HE BET ON THE GAME. Unacceptable. Whether he's not the only one to do it or blah blah whatever, he IS the example for why NOT to do it.
As for Bonds, the truth is yeah, he was on steroids. If it could be proven than I'm all for him being banned from the Hall. However, it wasn't proven. And it won't be. As far as I'm concerned, Bonds became a Hall of Famer the day he became a 400/400 (hrs/steals) guy. He's been a constant all-star, an MVP, a gold glover, a batting champion etc.
Taking steroids late in his career allowed him to chase Aaron, but he was a hall of famer long before that.
And Bud Selig IS a bitch.

Meh, not much that can be done about Bonds or Rose. Everyone seems to be counting on "A-rod" to beat the record. I'm going to laugh when Alex is 10 shy of breaking Bonds' record, and gets tested positively for steroids. Barry, who had recently stated that he hates Alex, and refuses to watch him break the record, will then give Alex his full support and go to every game.

Bonds has never failed a test. You can't ban someone for not failing a test. Do you know why? It's called "big motherfucking lawsuit." Say they ban him for using steroids. The burden of proof is not on him to PROVE that he didn't, it is on baseball to PROVE that he did. Common knowledge doesn't make proof. Look at OJ.
The thing is...if Selig steps too far out of line, MLB goes under. The only reason they exist is because there is an antitrust exemption given by Congress. If Selig goes too far in either direction (too tough? Union can get the courts to nullify the expemtio. Too lenient? Congress pulsl the exemption on their own), MLB loses that antitrust exemption and has to split.
Know what that means? No more World Series.
So let's run down your arguments.
1) He used steroids. Great. Prove it. Unlike everyone else who came up in the steroid debate, he hasn't had the performance falloff as others, namely Palmeiro, Sosa, Giambi. The only reason his numbers are down a LITTLE bit? 42 years old and bad knees, certified by the surgeons that operated on him. Bonds hasn't shrunk the way Giambi and Sosa have. He's still got the same hitting ability. He's still got the same power. In fact, his size (commonly used as a steroid proof) is now his greatest defense. He hasn't shrunk when everyone else did.
2) Not telling the truth in court. Trust me, the feds would LOVE to bust him on this. They haven't. Know why? They can't. No proof, just rampant suspicion.
3) Doing everything in his power to cover his lies. See #2. No proof of lies, no possible cover-up.
You hate Bonds and think he should be stopped but you don't have a single valid reason to stop him. So you fall back on "he's a greedy nigger" arguments. Which just shows you to be the fat beaner racist you've always been. Now that you've been thoroughly PWNED, will you shut your fat flapping lips?

Bud Selig didn't ban Rose from baseball. Giamatti did. He was commissioner for exactly 2 months before Fay Vincent took over. To echo Hadto, the commisioner has no authority over who gets in the hall of fame. You're going to ban Bonds from baseball for previous steroid use? Generally that only carries a 50 game suspension.

A lot of people don't like George Steinbrennor and that's fine with me. But you've got to give that muthafucker credit. When Jason Giambi was "accused" of taking steroids (remember, they had no proof) he gave a full confession right outside the clubhouse. George made him confess and didn't want an accusation to shadow his team even if it cost him a superstar.
How many owners can say that? George Steinbrennor kicks ass. Yankee fans kick ass, they boo'd their star player and treated him like pure shit until he got his fucking act together. Sure he ended up in the minor leagues for a while, shure he went down on the batting order, but he confessed. Doesn't matter who made him do it, he could have held his ground and still get paid because he is under contract. He didn't punk out like Barry did, he took his lumps like a fucking man.

Selig can't explicitly ban from the Hall of Fame. Selig has no authority over the Hall of Fame. If the Hall wanted Rose in, he'd be in. They CHOOSE to follow their own rule that anyone banned from baseball is banned from the Hall. They can change their mind.
Bonds *MAY HAVE* taken steroids. Sure, everyone thinks he did, but no one can PROVE it. It was proven that ROSE BET ON THE TEAM HE WAS MANAGING. So...maybe used steroids, or gained personal wealth from his team's losses....which is the greater offense?
