I always give everyone who posts a farewell a bunch of shit, mostly because I figure if you want quality shit to read, then you might as well dig for it. Today, I finally understand what all thos people were talking about when they said that uber has gone to shit. So, I'm out of here.
First of all, the alters and trolls are out of control. Have they always been? Maybe, but every day it gets worse. How many shitty, useless posts made it onto Most Heated last week? That and the obligiatory conspiracy post by ETS. Boring. The worst of all is alters like the Uniter. I'm loathe to call people out specifically, for one because he's never specifically shit on one of my posts, and for two I don't want to sound whining, but he really exemplifies how annoying some people can be when they've got the anonymity of the internet to hide behind.
Think about this: this is a user that got bored with their main account and now just lurks around being a dickhead. For no reason other than to piss people off. That is sad, and exceedingly common. And before any of you say "It's just a rating, they don't matter", I'll remind you that you're bullshitting yourself. Most of the people that take the time to create something for others to read put at least a little thought into it, and when someone acts like an asshole just for the sake of being an asshole, it's annoying.
Second, the lack of originality is killing me. At least on sites like 4chan they're proud of thier repetative crap and they do a meme with style. Ubersite has just been attracting the dregs as of late. Even the users that usually produce quality stuff seem to be too (busy? uninspired?) to post anything worthwhile. If you need an example, I invite you to check in on any of the lameass "do you like my hat" bandwagon posts that are littering the front page right now. How any of these have higher than a 0 makes me shit myself with confusion. But, you can't -2 the posts, because a good majority of the retards that posted them will go back and give you the dreaded "retaliatory -2".
That being said, Bart's experiment was to let the site run as it may, and that's cool. If he started moderating the site it would no longer be ubersite. Fuck it, what can you do? I've vented and now I'm saying goodbye.

Well- it's all true - but what can be done about it? Even if Bartleby came up with a way to defeat alters, would he apply it? He manages Uber in such a laissez-faire style.

I don't mind such bandwagons on the weekend, because almost no one posts anything anyway. It's not like they bump good things off at a rapid pace, because hardly anyone's around. GPF annoys me more in general (though there's the occasional gem), because there's SPT, then GPF, then a dead weekend, leaving basically 4 days of encouraging ourselves to post crap or nothing.
I took a short reviewing break recently, and realized I didn't miss it as much as I thought I might.
But I think in general, the site goes through phases and there's always good mixed with bad. I often read uber "veteran" comments on how the site has gone downhill, until I read some of the absolute shit that littered the page in the past as well. Ebbs and flows, that's all.
