It's been forever since I've done one of these.
I still have the same problems as before. Namely:
Too goddamn long.
Never know how to end it.

Did you consider breaking form and allowing your turkeys to shoot with their index fingers?

That would have made it funnier.

Dick Cheney accidentally shot someone, who lived, and it received lots of press coverage.
Aaron Burr intentionally shot a man, killing him, and was never convicted. Because duels were legal in whatever state they did it in, Burr couldn't be brought to trial for murder. He was brought to trial for treason, but not enough witnesses against him surfaced to convict him.
If it's any consolation, his political career was pretty much over afterwards.

"It's funny because the serving vice president literally SHOT AND KILLED somebody and was never convicted."
meh, if I was Vice president I'd want free reign to kill people too.
didn't this nearly happen again just recently?

DC, they were American political figures (Aaron burr the Vice president, and Alexander Hamilton I don't know what he was at the time, maybe treasurer or something).
It's funny because the serving vice president literally SHOT AND KILLED somebody and was never convicted.

not a clue who these people were/are and I don't care enough to look it up, I gather from the comments that they were americans, who shot each other, accidentally.
That is just a bit stereotypical and just a bit funny.
Try doing these with people around today or a modern situation.......one of those 'the world is going to end' people that were all going nuts (nutser) around 31/12/1999s reaction on 01/01/2000.
Or some guy in New Orleans having an argument with those religious nuts who hang around saying the city is doomed because of mardi gras and the hurricane turns up while they're talking.....

which currently amounts to about 60 people. not really worth the effort. the sad truth is that to get a significant amount of attention, you still have to play a little to the lowest common denominator, which includes pretty much everyone (regardless of what they think - everyone laughs at a fart at some point in their lives). the obscurity is funny, but cant possibly carry the idea for long because people get tired of needing to have the joke explained to them - note that the word you used for their responses was 'interesting', not 'hilarious' (or a synonym).
ps (as im sure youre aware) im not putting shit on you, by and large i quite enjoy this series, but im just giving you an opinion on why interest in it has waned somewhat.
---
I recognize this is constructive criticism, don't worry about it.
I very sincerely don't want to earn success at the cost of enjoying making the comic. And I really very barely enjoy making it as it is. My approach isn't to find an audience, my approach is to let my audience find me. And they're getting here. Not amazingly fast, but decently enough. I'd rather play material I enjoy to 60 people than material I don't to 6,000.

"the problem is that the whole 'obscure' part of your subjects is no longer a novelty, and that was the only thing that made it funny. (you might be thinking that these two are not obscure, but the internet is of course a worldwide community, and didnt have the slightest fuckign idea who these two were.) the problem with obscure subject material is that if you dont know what its about you have to find out. and if a joke has to be explained, then its a bad joke."
---
The intention is never that they be obscure. That was never meant to be the novelty. The novelty has always been taking situations that may have been awkward, and building a conversation around it. Most people I assume know about Joseph and Mary, I'm willing to bet most people know about Mel Gibson, Alexander Graham Bell, the Unabomber, and some other people I've done strips on. I'm not trying to be obscure. While I try to stay away from material that's overdone, obscurity is certainly not the goal. It's just that if I see something interesting, I make a comic about it.
The hope is that the people who know about them will enjoy it, and those who don't might read up on the matter and even learn a little bit. I get a lot of replies on these comics that say "Read the comic then checked to see who the people were, that's pretty interesting what happened there."
If people aren't willing to do that then they don't need to read it. But since people are reading it, I suppose that means I've found my nice of people who either know about every guy I've made comics about, or don't mind looking it up. Or maybe they're still funny on a certain level even to someone completely ignorant. Who knows? It doesn't matter in the end, really.

I have no real reason to link to Ubersite from here. The way I treat the site, actually, is that anything on Ubersite worth giving its own little section on the internet gets moved to the site.

Burr's bullet hit Hamilton in his side and tore a two-inch entry wound in his liver. The bullet bounced off his ribcage and ricocheted around his abdomen before settling. The wound was so severe that even if it had been done today, with a team of top medical doctors on hand, Hamilton still would have died.

Burr actually tried to shoot over his head but accidentally hit him in the face.
Also, Hamilton was a volatile nutjob. He was good at his job and all, but he challenged fucking everybody to duels, and at least one was canceled after Burr mediated between Hamilton and, I think, Madison. Hamilton had it coming.
------
It was Burr who challenged Hamilton, and shot him in the gut. Other than that, you were spot on.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The thing is, Hamilton provoked it. He knew what he was doing when he defamed Burr in the papers. Burr had no choice.
Most of what I know is from Gore Vidal's "Burr", which he claims to be not an exact retelling of Burr's life, but at least very close to it. He wrote there that Burr was a horrible shot and probably would have missed if he were actually aiming at him. Also, Vidal wrote that Burr considered himself and Hamilton to be friendly rivals, and that he even LIKED Hamilton depsite disagreeing with his politics.
I dont know how much of that is true, though. The book is categorized as fiction, so who knows.
