When daylight's dawn is beating drums,
the Phoenix like the morning comes
with flailing wings it whistles, hums
and rises from its ashen sun.

Like Lucifer, he fell from grace-
O decadent death! O dark disgrace!
But like old Morningstar gave chase
he rises from his darkened place.

He ruptures starlight, fractures night,
and decks the earth in burning light;
like ancient angels, pale and white
the Phoenix's halo burns so bright.

The ashes stir, the Phoenix calls-
O cursed night when brightness falls!
From broken glass and crumbling walls,
his fire mends less than it mauls.

And let the meter fall, for now,
as Phaethon calls his tortures near;
no patterned speech or cultured rhymes
could capture, quite, our building fear.

What poetry could capture death,
what verse could grasp a world's collapse;
that heart's last beat, that lung's last breath-
what words could speak of these with grace?

When daylight's dawn is beating drums,
we hide among the ruined towns,
When Phoenix like the morning comes,
it's wise, my dear, to not be found.
And when those old and ancient sons,
those angels at Jehova's side
Are standing in the morning sun
to face their coming death with pride-
O end of days, O coming night,
The Phoenix comes to bring the light.

Oh. heh. Not that it matters now. (whew!...glad I didn't cause any drama.)

It really was quite good.

Normally I would give this a 2... but I have to say I liked the sandwich's poem a little better.

oh, and: "his fire mends less than it mauls."

Gave me a small cramp.

AWESOME POEM.

Good stuff.

Like I said before, George Mason would have never made the final four if they had to play Duke every round.

Oh and that thing a while back; emekkawan posted some pic of you so that's why I thought it was your alter. it is here:

unless that isn't you.

Anyhow, good luck in the next round!

I think the Duke Dog must afford people a respect and appreciation for history and mythology.

This is absolutely right up my alley. It 'reads' old school, and I love that.

Cam Lasley, born in 1982, first became interested in music when he played drums in the Junior High School band in Lake Oswego, Oregon. Before long he began writing his own thought provoking lyrics, as rap became his music of choice. In High School, Lasley was dubbed "Laz D" by former classmate, and current Atlanta Hawk, Salim Stoudamire, and the name has stuck. In 2005 he began writing the 14 tracks that make up the debut record "The Man Himself", which in 2006 was produced and recorded by Jack Gibson at the D Compound. The first single "Clean Up the Game" sends edgy, positive messages of anti-violence to the listener, while the follow up "Girlfriend" is an R&B love ballad. Despite having Down syndrome, Laz D hasn't let the disorder deter him from writing and performing music, sending words of encouragement to everyone. Visit www.laz-d.com to purchase the album, watch the video, and find out about D Entertainments newest artist!

I found this particularly interesting, considering my round 2 entry last year was about a phoenix: http://www.ubersite.com/m/85761

The difference is that yours kicks much more ass.

This kicks ass, on at least six levels.

Lisa, if you don't like your job you don't strike. You just go in
every day and do it really half-assed. That's the American way.
